TLDR
Evidence is provided that school-based physical activity interventions can be effective in increasing physical activity enjoyment in children and adolescents, however, the magnitude of the pooled effect was small-to-moderate and there was evidence for publication bias and large between-study heterogeneity.

A cross-sectional study of the influence of neighborhood environment on childhood overweight and obesity: variation by age, gender, and environment characteristics.

TL;DR: For girls in middle and high schools, the risk of overweight+obesity and obesity were positively associated with population density, and negatively associated with percent of poverty and percent of unhealthy food.

Evaluation of a Pilot School-Based Physical Activity Clustered Randomised Controlled Trial-Active Schools: Skelmersdale.

TL;DR: The AS:Sk pilot intervention was effective in reducing school day ST but significant changes in PA were negligible, and authors should focus on implementation and process evaluations to better understand how schools are implementing intervention components.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of school-based interventions on motivation towards physical activity in children and adolescents: A systematic review and meta-analysis

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of school-based physical activity interventions on a variety of motivational outcomes towards PA in school-aged children and adolescents were analyzed using Comprehensive Meta-analysis software.
Journal ArticleDOI

The role of physical activity enjoyment in the pathways from the social and physical environments to physical activity of early adolescent girls

TL;DR: The findings of this study identified several direct effects of the social and physical environment on PA enjoyment that can begin to inform environmental-level strategies for increasing PA enjoyment among early adolescent girls.

Statistical Power Analysis for the Behavioral Sciences

TL;DR: The concepts of power analysis are discussed in this paper, where Chi-square Tests for Goodness of Fit and Contingency Tables, t-Test for Means, and Sign Test are used.

Measuring inconsistency in meta-analyses

TL;DR: A new quantity is developed, I 2, which the authors believe gives a better measure of the consistency between trials in a meta-analysis, which is susceptible to the number of trials included in the meta- analysis.

Bias in meta-analysis detected by a simple, graphical test

TL;DR: Funnel plots, plots of the trials' effect estimates against sample size, are skewed and asymmetrical in the presence of publication bias and other biases Funnel plot asymmetry, measured by regression analysis, predicts discordance of results when meta-analyses are compared with single large trials.

Exercise, physical activity, and self-determination theory: A systematic review

TL;DR: Overall, the literature provides good evidence for the value of SDT in understanding exercise behavior, demonstrating the importance of autonomous (identified and intrinsic) regulations in fostering physical activity.
