Background noise is the irregular variation across repeated measurements of human performance. Background noise remains after task and treatment effects are minimized. Background noise refers to intrinsic sources of variability, the intrinsic dynamics of mind and body, and the internal workings of a living being. Two experiments demonstrate 1/f scaling (pink noise) in simple reaction times and speeded word naming times, which round out a catalog of laboratory task demonstrations that background noise is pink noise. Ubiquitous pink noise suggests processes of mind and body that change each other's dynamics. Such interaction-dominant dynamics are found in systems that self-organize their behavior. Self-organization provides an unconventional perspective on cognition, but this perspective closely parallels a contemporary interdisciplinary view of living systems.read more

Neuropsychology Mental Structure
TL;DR: The authors consider specifically the neuropathological substrate on which are based the defective memory, ocular motor signs, the ataxia, the global confusional state and the occasional disturbance of olfactory and gustatory function and discuss the relationship between Wernicke's disease and Korsakoff's psychosis.

The Body in the Mind: The Bodily Basis of Meaning, Imagination, and Reason
TL;DR: The body in the mind the bodily basis of meaning imagination and reason as mentioned in this paper is one of the most popular body-in-the-mind readings in the world, but it can also end up in malicious downloads.

Spontaneous attentional fluctuations in impaired states and pathological conditions: a neurobiological hypothesis.
TL;DR: An alternative hypothesis is reviewed: that spontaneous patterns of very low frequency (<0.1 Hz) coherence within a specific brain network thought to support a pattern of generalized task-non-specific cognition during rest, can persist or intrude into periods of active task-specific processing, producing periodic fluctuations in attention that compete with goal-directed activity.

The dynamics of perception and action.
TL;DR: A theoretical framework called behavioral dynamics is developed that integrates an information-based approach to perception with a dynamical systems approach to action for a given task, which is used to develop theories of several tasks in which a human agent interacts with the physical environment.

The Continuity of Mind
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present some experimental tools for tracking continuous mental trajectories and some Simulation Tools for Tracking Continuous Mental Trajectories (CMT) in the context of Continuity Psychology.
