TLDR
The first experience obtained by 3D freehand single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) (F- SPECT) guidance for sentinel lymph node detection (SLND) in two patients with early stage breast cancer is presented.Abstract:
We herein present our first experience obtained by 3D freehand single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) (F-SPECT) guidance for sentinel lymph node detection (SLND) in two patients with early stage breast cancer. F-SPECT guidance was carried out using one-day protocol in one case and by the two-day protocol in the other one. SLND was performed successfully in both patients. Histopathologic evaluation showed that the excised nodes were tumor negative. Thus, patients underwent breast-conserving surgery alone.read more

TL;DR: 3-D localization of SLNs is feasible using freehand SPECT technology and has high potential to allow image-guided biopsy and further standardization of SLN dissection, thus bringing 3-D nuclear imaging into the operating room.

TL;DR: Data suggest that delivery of mapping reagents in the subareolar (SA) location identifies similar lymph nodes in patients with breast cancer, and because of simplicity and the similarity in node identification between SA and PT injection, further investigation of the SA site for delivery of SLN mapping re agents for breast cancer is warranted.

TL;DR: The combination of a standard hand-held γ-probe and real-time imaging provided by a portable γ -camera offers a high intraoperative detection rate in patients with difficult sentinel node localization as assessed by presurgical lymphoscintigraphy.

TL;DR: FhSPECT is a highly sensitive modality for intraoperative detection of SLN detection, resulting in the identification of a higher number of SLNs than conventional gamma probe detection.
