Comparing the Performance of Regression and Neural Networks as Data Quality Varies: a Business Value Approach
TL;DR: This paper examines a real-world example from the field of finance to illustrate a comparison of alternative modeling tools and finds that neural net-based forecasts tended to be more robust than linear regression forecasts as data accuracy degraded.
Journal ArticleDOI
Training a neural network to select dispatching rules in real time
TL;DR: A new approach based on neural networks (NN) is proposed here to select in real time, each time a resource becomes available, the most suited DR, which is made in accordance with the current system state and the workshop operating condition parameters.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Efficiency improvement and variance reduction
TL;DR: Methods such as common random numbers, antithetic variate, control variates, importance sampling, conditional Monte Carlo, stratified sampling, and some others are discussed, as well as the combination of certain of those methods.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multispecies survey design for assessing reef-fish stocks, spatially explicit management performance, and ecosystem condition
Steven G. Smith,Jerald S. Ault,James A. Bohnsack,Douglas E. Harper,Jiangang Luo,David B. McClellan +5 more
TL;DR: It is shown how survey data are used to support multispecies stock assessments, evaluate the effectiveness of NTMRs, and assess ecosystem condition for the reef fish community.

Comparison of Load Balancing Strategies on Cluster-based Web Servers:
Yong Meng Teo,Rassul Ayani +1 more
TL;DR: This paper focuses on an experimental analysis of the perfor mance and scalability of cluster-based web servers and observes that the round robin algorithm performs much worse in comparison with the other two algorithms for low to medium workload, but as the request arrival rate increases, the performance of the three algorithms converge.
