Control concepts for direct steam generation in parabolic troughs
TL;DR: In this article, a parabolic-trough collector system was erected at the Plataforma Solar de Almeria (PSA) to investigate direct steam generation (DSG) in a solar thermal power plant under real solar conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Solar electricity generation. A comparative view of technologies, costs and environmental impact
TL;DR: In this article, the authors compared present solar electricity technologies from the point of view of system analysis, taking into consideration their performance, costs and environmental impact, and presented a practical tool for decision-makers that facilitates a first estimate of the performance and costs of such plants under local conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of solar technologies for driving a desalination system by means of an organic Rankine cycle
TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed a low power (100 kW) solar organic Rankine cycle (ORC) as the mechanical and thermal energy source for desalination processes, and the results indicated that, in a cycle with a recuperator effectiveness of 0.8, it is possible to achieve with LS3 parabolic trough collector overall efficiencies between 20.6%−14% with toluene, 18.3%−11.9% with octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4) and 14.4%−7
Journal ArticleDOI
Greenhouse gas analysis of solar-thermal electricity generation
TL;DR: In this article, the greenhouse gas costs of solar-thermal electricity generation were determined using either material inventories in physical units or monetary cost breakdowns, and the authors showed that solar-only plants employing parabolic troughs, central receivers or parabolic dishes exhibit GGC around 90 g CO 2 -e/kWh el.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of solar thermal technologies for applications in seawater desalination
TL;DR: In this paper, a global analysis of the use of solar energy in seawater distillation under Spanish climatic conditions is presented, where different temperature ranges of the thermal energy supply required for a desalination process were considered.
