TLDR
In this article, a simple mathematical theory is developed so that order of magnitude estimates can be made, which indicate that acoustic emission events may be associated with only a small fraction of the total plastic strain.

A study of tool wear using statistical analysis of metal-cutting acoustic emission

TL;DR: In this paper, the analysis of acoustic emission signals generated during machining has been proposed as a technique for studying both the fundamentals of the cutting process and tool wear and as a methodology for detecting tool wear.
Journal ArticleDOI

Acoustic emission for physical examination of metals

TL;DR: In this article, it is shown that metallurgical variables greatly affect the acoustic emission response of metals, and simple models to account for this are discussed, however, the limitations of existing acoustic-emission recording instrumentation have enabled only qualitative information to be obtained to date.
Journal ArticleDOI

Delamination evaluation of composite laminates with different interface fiber orientations using acoustic emission features and micro visualization

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the sequence of initiation and evolution of different damage mechanisms during the DCB standard test procedure on specimens with different interface fiber orientation using Acoustic Emission (AE) data analysis and microscopic imaging methods.
Journal ArticleDOI

The relationship between acoustic emission signals and cutting phenomena in turning process

TL;DR: In this paper, the correlation between cutting phenomena and acoustic emissions in a turning process was examined experimentally by using a steel workpiece and a cermet tool in a numerically controlled turning process.
Journal ArticleDOI

Wave phenomena in low‐rate plastic flow of solids

TL;DR: In this paper, a model for interpreting the large-scale periodicities exhibited by the distribution of localized strain nuclei is proposed, and a set of equations appropriate for the description of local flow nuclei are discussed.

Application of Dislocation Theory to Internal Friction Phenomena at High Frequencies

TL;DR: A detailed discussion of data obtained over the past 15 years concerning the damping of mechanical vibrations in the kilocycle and megacycle range is given in this paper, where the dependence of the decrement and modulus change on the variables of frequency and strain-amplitude and many other parameters is compared with predictions of the dislocation theory developed in an earlier paper.
