Superior mesenteric artery first combined with uncinate process approach versus uncinate process first approach in pancreatoduodenectomy: a comparative study evaluating perioperative outcomes.

TLDR
SMA first is a safe technique that compares well with the uncinate first approach in terms of operative time, blood loss, number of lymph nodes retrieved, margin positivity and operative morbidity.
Abstract
Purpose During pancreatoduodenectomy (PD), two techniques have been described to dissect the head of pancreas, viz. the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) approach by dissecting the uncinate process and the uncinate process first approach.

'Artery-first' approaches to pancreatoduodenectomy.

TL;DR: The aim of this study was to review, and illustrate, this approach to pancreatoduodenectomy, and to promote the development of an ‘artery‐first’ approach.

Pancreatoduodenectomy With Systematic Mesopancreas Dissection Using a Supracolic Anterior Artery-first Approach.

TL;DR: SMD-PD using an SAA is feasible across PD cases, with acceptable short-term outcomes, and this procedure is proposed as a promising option for PD.

Meta-analysis of an artery-first approach versus standard pancreatoduodenectomy on perioperative outcomes and survival

TL;DR: The aim of this systematic review and meta‐analysis was to evaluate perioperative outcomes and survival in patients undergoing an artery‐first approach to pancreatoduodenectomy in comparison with those having standard pancreasectomy.

Evolution of pancreatoduodenectomy in a tertiary cancer center in India: improved results from service reconfiguration.

TL;DR: Evolution of practice and perioperative management of PD for pancreatic cancer at a tertiary cancer center in India improvedPerioperative outcomes and helped sustain the improvements despite increasing surgical volume, as well as reducing overall morbidity rates.

The importance of surgical margins in pancreatic cancer.

TL;DR: The influence of margin status in PDAC is controversial, as conflicting data have been plagued by a lack of standardization in margin definitions, pathologic analysis, and reporting.

Postoperative pancreatic fistula: an international study group (ISGPF) definition.

TL;DR: In this article, an international panel of pancreatic surgeons, working in well-known, high-volume centers, reviewed the literature on the topic and worked together to develop a simple, objective, reliable, and easy-to-apply definition of postoperative pancreatic fistula, graded primarily on clinical impact.

Special article Postoperative pancreatic fistula: An international study group (ISGPF) definition

TL;DR: The present definition and clinical grading of POPF should allow realistic comparisons of surgical experiences in the future when new techniques, new operations, or new pharmacologic agents that may impact surgical treatment of pancreatic disorders are addressed.
