Journal ArticleDOI

Organ failure and infection of pancreatic necrosis as determinants of mortality in patients with acute pancreatitis.

TL;DR: In patients with acute pancreatitis, the absolute influence of OF and IPN on mortality is comparable and thus the presence of either indicates severe disease and the relative risk of mortality doubles when of both are both present.
Journal ArticleDOI

A systematic review of skills transfer after surgical simulation training.

TL;DR: Skills acquired by simulation-based training seem to be transferable to the operative setting and more studies are required to strengthen the evidence base and to provide the evidence needed to determine the extent to which simulation should become a part of surgical training programs.
Journal ArticleDOI

Determinant-Based Classification of Acute Pancreatitis Severity: An International Multidisciplinary Consultation

TL;DR: This classification is the result of a consultative process amongst pancreatologists from 49 countries spanning North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Oceania, and Africa and provides a set of concise up-to-date definitions of all the main entities pertinent to classifying the severity of acute pancreatitis in clinical practice and research.
Journal ArticleDOI

Global incidence and mortality of pancreatic diseases: a systematic review, meta-analysis, and meta-regression of population-based cohort studies

TL;DR: Global estimates of the incidence and mortality of major pancreatic diseases in high-quality population-based cohort studies showed that acute pancreatitis is the most common pancreatic disease whilst pancreatic cancer is themost lethal, however, their burden is not equal across the globe.
