Abstract
A microcomputer-based drive system for a switched reluctance motor requires no rotor position sensor and no discrete current sensors. Phase excitation is synchronized with rotor position by indirectly estimating rotor position according to instantaneous phase inductance. Current regulation is achieved by incorporating pilot devices for current sensing into the switching devices of the power converter and by employing a fixed off-time current chopping strategy. One application is for use in a laundering machine.

Inductance model-based sensorless control of the switched reluctance motor drive at low speed

TL;DR: In this paper, a sensorless control scheme for the switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive at low speed is presented, where the incremental inductance of each active phase is estimated using the terminal measurement of this phase.

Motor control apparatus

TL;DR: In this paper, an actual shift position that is detected from an output of an output shaft sensor for detecting a rotation position of a motor is set as an instructed shift position, which prevents trouble that the shift position is switched contrary to the intention of the driver.

Position sensor elimination technique for the switched reluctance motor drive

TL;DR: In this paper, the position information for a switched reluctance (SR) motor drive is obtained indirectly in response to the motor phase inductance, where an oscillator generates a signal having a time period that is a function of the inductance.

Switched reluctance starter/generator system and method of controlling same

TL;DR: In this article, a switch reluctance machine (SRM) is coupled to the dc distribution bus and the phase windings at a fixed angle prior to alignment of the rotor pole with the associated stator pole, which allows dc phase current to energize the winding.

Power converter with emergency operating mode for three phase induction motors

TL;DR: In this paper, a DC-to-AC power converter that is used to drive a three-phase motor while providing for fail soft and emergency operation is presented, where the controller is configured to disable a failed one of the three normal poles, and to control the fourth pole subsequent to disabling of the failed pole.

A simple motion estimator for variable-reluctance motors

TL;DR: In this article, a simple motion estimator for inverter-driven variable-reluctance motors is presented, which probes unexcited phases with short voltage pulses from the inverter, and evaluates the resulting currents to measure the phase inductances.

Laundering apparatus, method of operating a laundry machine, control system for an electronically commutated motor, method of operating an electronically commutated motor, and circuit

TL;DR: In this paper, a method of operating a laundry machine with a pair of rotatable components and an electronically commutated motor is described, in which a first control function is imposed on the operation of the machine to control the application of the DC voltage in accordance with a selected one of a plurality of first waveshapes so as to provide a resultant effective voltage to the motor.

Rotor position estimator for switched reluctance motor

TL;DR: In this article, an indirect position estimator for a switched reluctance motor applies short duration, low level sensing pulses to two unenergized phases of the motor to produce an indication of a pair of estimated angles for each of the unslotted phases.

Control system for switched reluctance motor

TL;DR: In this paper, a programmable, closed-loop four quadrant control system for a switched reluctance motor employs feedback control, angle control and current control, which can be implemented with a speed feedback loop and/or a torque feedback loop.
