Symmetry in chemical structures and reactions

TLDR
Symmetry is analyzed at the atomic level (periodic system, chemical bonding, hybridization), at the molecular level (polyhedral organic molecules and their rearrangement products; isomerism and Polya's theorem; Jahn-Teller effects) and at the supramolecular level (reaction graphs for rearrangements and automerizations; repeating sequences in polymer chains; conservation of orbital symmetry in chemical reactions).
Abstract
Symmetry is analyzed at the atomic level (periodic system, chemical bonding, hybridization), at the molecular level (polyhedral organic molecules and their rearrangement products; isomerism and Polya's theorem; Jahn-Teller effects) and at the supramolecular level (reaction graphs for rearrangements and automerizations; repeating sequences in polymer chains; conservation of orbital symmetry in chemical reactions). A few excursions into mathematics involve solid angles, heuristics of (3, γ)-cages, and visualization of symmetry operations for graphs in three- and four-dimensional Euclidean spaces.

The Conservation of Orbital Symmetry (福井謙一とフロンティア軌導理論) -- (参考論文)

TL;DR: In this article, the most basic ideas of molecular orbital theory-the concepts of symmetry, overlap, interaction, bonding, and the nodal structure of wave functions are used to rationalize and predict the stereochemical course of virtually every concerted organic reaction.
Journal ArticleDOI

Carbon and its nets

TL;DR: The uniqueness of C-C bonds, which allows life to exist and gives birth to the infinite number of organic compounds, is analysed in this paper, and the connection between symmetry and molecular stability is noted.
Journal ArticleDOI

Inorganic Graphenylene: A Porous Two-Dimensional Material With Tunable Band Gap

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the possibility of existence of a boron nitride (BN) porous two-dimensional nanosheet, which is geometrically similar to the carbon allotrope known as biphenylene carbon.

An Extended Hückel Theory. I. Hydrocarbons

TL;DR: The Huckel theory, with an extended basis set consisting of 2s and 2p carbon and 1s hydrogen orbitals, with inclusion of overlap and all interactions, yields a good qualitative solution of most hydrocarbon conformational problems.

Introduction to Quantum Mechanics

TL;DR: A new chapter on symmetries, new problems and examples, improved explanations, more numerical problems to be worked on a computer, new applications to solid state physics, and consolidated treatment of time-dependent potentials as discussed by the authors.
