TLDR
In this article, the isotopic abundances of C13 and O18 were analyzed for carbon dioxide reporting, in addition to concentration in air, in order to explain the correlation observed for all samples between C13 isotope abundance and concentration of carbon dioxide in air.

Carbon Isotope Discrimination and Photosynthesis

TL;DR: In this article, the physical and enzymatic bases of carbone isotope discrimination during photosynthesis were discussed, noting how knowledge of discrimination can be used to provide additional insight into photosynthetic metabolism and the environmental influences on that process.
Journal ArticleDOI

Stable Isotopes in Plant Ecology

TL;DR: How isotope measurements associated with the critical plant resources carbon, water, and nitrogen have helped deepen the understanding of plant-resource acquisition, plant interactions with other organisms, and the role of plants in ecosystem studies is reviewed.

Uncertainty in source partitioning using stable isotopes

TL;DR: For both two- and three- source mixing models, formulas for calculat- ing variances, standard errors (SE), and confidence inter- vals for source proportion estimates that account for the observed variability in the isotopic signatures for the sources as well as the mixture are presented.

Sources of CO2 efflux from soil and review of partitioning methods

TL;DR: In this article, the root-derived CO2 efflux from soil has been distinguished and described according to their turnover rates and the mean residence time of carbon in the soil according to five main biogenic sources.

Isotopic standards for carbon and oxygen and correction factors for mass-spectrometric analysis of carbon dioxide

TL;DR: In this paper, Niee's and Solenhofen standards were compared to the Chicago PDB standard for carbon and oxygen isotope ratios, and the correction factors for instrumental effects and for the nature of the mass spectra were derived.

Variation of O18 content of waters from natural sources

TL;DR: A number of marine water and fresh water samples were examined for the relative O18O16 ratio, and the variation of this ratio was determined to a precision of ± 1% as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

The geochemistry of the stable carbon isotopes

TL;DR: A survey of the variation of the ratio C13/C12 in nature can be found in this paper, where Urey and his co-workers used two complete feed systems with magnetic switching to determine small differences in isotope ratios between samples and a standard gas.
Journal ArticleDOI

Improvements in Mass Spectrometers for the Measurement of Small Differences in Isotope Abundance Ratios

TL;DR: A Nier-type mass spectrometer and its associated electronic units have been constructed for the purpose of measuring small variations in the abundances of oxygen and carbon isotopes to an accuracy of ±0.01 percent of the abundance of these isotopes.
