In this paper, the authors developed a model to analyze properties of demand functions for the quantity and quality of physicians' services and apply the model to study the demand for pediatric care.Abstract:
When the quality of a good varies, quantity in physical units may be a very misleading measure of total consumption. In this paper it is argued that differences in quality are a distinguishing feature of the market for physicians' services. We develop a model to analyze properties of demand functions for the quantity and quality of physicians' services and apply the model to study the demand for pediatric care--physicians' services rendered to children. The theoretical model of quantity-quality substitution provides a framework for demand analysis whenever the market for a good is distinguished by a quality component.read more

Health insurance and the demand for medical care: evidence from a randomized experiment.

TL;DR: This work estimates how cost sharing, the portion of the bill the patient pays, affects the demand for medical services and rejects the hypothesis that less favorable coverage of outpatient services increases total expenditure.

Estimating a Household Production Function: Heterogeneity, the Demand for Health Inputs, and Their Effects on Birth Weight
TL;DR: Estimates of health technology must be obtained from a behavioral model in which health inputs are themselves choices, which leads to correlations between inputs and health outcomes that cannot be used to derive causal conclusions.

The Anatomy of Health Insurance
TL;DR: The anatomy of health insurance can be found in this article, where the authors consider the optimal design of a health insurance policy that makes tradeoffs appropriately between risk sharing on the one hand and agency problems such as moral hazard and supplier-induced demand on the other.

Prices and Quality Effects in Cross-Sectional Demand Analysis
TL;DR: In this paper, a conceptual clarification of the sources and meaning of cross-sectional price variability is used to motivate a theoretical and econometric framework for the estimation of crosssectional demand functions.

Physical activity and health outcomes: evidence from canada
TL;DR: Estimates indicate that participation in physical activity reduces the reported incidence of diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, asthma, and arthritis as well as being in fair or poor health.
