This is the first systematic analysis of racial prejudice in China, a complex and sensitive subject that has been almost completely ignored by Chinese and Western scholars.

Far more than a century, the importance of the economic and human capital generated in ethnic Chinese economies abroad to the modernization of China has been a subject of interest to political leaders, intellectuals and Overseas Chinese alike. This paper uses a collection of documents commemorating the construction of a distinctive cemetery by a praminent Overseas Chinese from Fujian to explore the early twentieth century discourse on the nature and significance of Overseas Chinese contributions to modernization efforts. This discourse is characterized by tensions about the appropriate basis for Chinese modernity, the appropriate role for the Overseas Chinese in the modernity project, and the need to domesticate the transnationalism of the Overseas Chinese to enable them to play that role.

Genetic epidemiology examines the role of genetic factors in determining health and disease in families and in populations to help addressing health problems in a responsible manner. This paper uses a case study of genetic epidemiology in Taizhou, China, to explore ways in which anthropology can contribute to the validation of studies in genetic epidemiology. It does so, first, by identifying potential overgeneralizations of data, often due to mismatching scale and, second, by examining it's embedding in political, historical and local contexts. The example of the longitudinal cohort study in Taizhou illustrates dimensions of such 'political scaling'. Political scaling is a notion used here to refer to the effects of scaling biases in relation to the justification of research in terms of relevance, reach and research ethics. The justification of a project on genetic epidemiology involves presenting a maximum of benefits and a minimum of burden for the population. To facilitate the delineation of political scaling, an analytical distinction between donating and benefiting communities was made using the notions of 'scaling of relevance', 'scaling of reach' and 'scaling of ethics'. Political scaling results at least partly from factors external to research. By situating political scaling in the context of historical, political and local discourses, anthropologists can play a complementary role in genetic epidemiology.

Corporate entrepreneurship is also very important for the business performance of companies. This article deals with general employee satisfaction, corporate entrepreneurship, and the growth of companies. The general satisfaction of employees in terms of their satisfaction with work, their work environment, and the organization for which they work are extremely important to business performance. It is vital that employees find challenge, interest, and a sense of accomplishment in the work they do. The authors presented and empirically tested hypotheses about relationships between general employee satisfaction, corporate entrepreneurship, and company growth. Data for a regression analysis for testing the hypotheses were collected via responses to a structured questionnaire on a sample of Slovenian companies. The research results indicate positive relationships between general employee satisfaction and corporate entrepreneurship, corporate entrepreneurship and company growth, and general employee satisfaction and growth of the company. Satisfied employees are an important factor for the sustainable development of enterprises, economies, and societies. Employees are key to the achievement of internal quality in every business organization, regardless of the firm size or industry, and, consequently, integral to the business performance of companies. Managers may identify the interests of employees and receive feedback from them in order to improve business results. Some companies have overly rigid hierarchical structures, operate according to established routines, lack strategic business connections, and offer poor organizational support, so corporate entrepreneurship—entrepreneurship inside existing organizations—as a driving force of the freedom and improved performance of employees becomes even more important for firm operation and growth. Key employees may leave the company if their needs are neglected.
