Abstract
St. Lucia Estuary on the Zululand coast, which once had a rich fauna of prawns and fish, has recently deteriorated. An ecological survey has shown that this is due to silting at the mouth and very saline water in the upper lakes. These conditions are traced back to droughts, erosion and man's interference with the filtering action of swamps. The present fauna and flora are described and plans for improving the estuary are discussed.

A General Account of the Fauna and Flora of Mangrove Swamps and Forests in the Indo-West-Pacific Region

TL;DR: Mangroves are trees or bushes growing between the level of high water of spring tides and a level close to but above mean sea-level and the land animals found in mangrove forests include roosting flocks of fruit bats, fishing and insectivorous birds, and many insects are conspicuous.

The universal features of zonation between tide-marks on rocky coasts

TL;DR: There is evidence of a tendency to undertake the examination of long coastlines more readily than before, and this is of course facilitated by car and plane travel, and by the construction of roads in many places which were previously inaccessible.
