The edaphic phase in the ontogenesis of Frankliniella occidentalis and comparison of Hypoaspis miles and Hypoaspis aculeifer as predators of soil-dwelling thrips stages

TLDR
The effect of the two soil-dwelling predatory mites, Hypoaspis miles (Berlese) and H. aculeifer (Canestrini) (Acari: Laelapidae), on the population development of the WFT feeding on French beans was examined and both species showed a greater efficiency as a natural enemy against soil- dwelling developmental stages of theWFT.

Mites for the control of pests in protected cultivation.

TL;DR: The authors review recent advances related to the application of predatory mites for the control of greenhouse pests, and discuss interactions among acarine biocontrol agents (ABAs) and the effects of crop plants and new technologies on ABAs, such as artificial lighting, elevated carbon dioxide levels and genetically modified organisms.
Journal ArticleDOI

Thrips: Pests of Concern to China and the United States

TL;DR: Focus is placed on the importance of collaboration among different countries to enhance the overall understanding of the biology and ecology of thrips and to improve management programs for these widespread pests.
Journal ArticleDOI

Efficacy of entomopathogenic fungi against soil‐dwelling life stages of western flower thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis, in plant‐growing media

TL;DR: Overall, this study shows that M. anisopliae V275 is robust and offers much promise for the control of soil‐dwelling stages of thrips as part of an integrated pest‐management programme.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of intercrops on thrips species composition and population abundance on French beans in Kenya

TL;DR: It was showed that a complex of thrips is found in the field and its composition varies with crop stage and species and intercropping French bean with other crops compromises on French bean yield but reduces damage to the French bean pods, thereby enhancing marketable yield.
Journal ArticleDOI

Predation capacity of two predatory laelapid mites on soil-dwelling thrips stages.

TL;DR: The fitness of the two predatory mites on F. occidentalis as prey and their suitability as biocontrol agents are elucidated.

Insecticide resistance in the western flower thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis.

TL;DR: It appears that resistance in F. occidentalis is polyfactorial; different mechanisms can confer resistance in different populations and different mechanisms may coexist in the same population.
