The influence of interfacial energies and gravitational levels on the directionally solidified structures in hypermonotectic alloys
TLDR
In this paper, various Cu-Pb-Al alloys were directionally solidified under 1g conditions and alternating high-g/low-g conditions (achieved using NSAS's KC-135 aircraft) as a means of studying the influence of interfacial energies and gravitational levels on the resulting microstructures.Abstract:
Various Cu-Pb-Al alloys were directionally solidified under 1-g conditions and alternating high-g/low-g conditions (achieved using NSAS's KC-135 aircraft) as a means of studying the influence of interfacial energies and gravitational levels on the resulting microstructures. Directional solidification of low Al content alloys was found to result in samples with coarser more irregular microstructures than in alloys with high Al contents under all the gravity conditions considered. Structures are correlated with interfacial energies, growth rates, and gravitational levels.read more

Frictional behavior of non-equilibrium Cu-Pb alloys
TL;DR: In this article, a continuous casting procedure was employed to produce homogeneous alloys of Cu-Pb with lead content greater than 40 wt. The friction and wear behavior of these alloys were studied by using a pin-on-disk test rig.

Liquid phase separation and microstructure characterization in a designed Al-based amorphous matrix composite with spherical crystalline particles
TL;DR: In this paper, a method has been developed based on the mechanism of the liquid-liquid phase transformation in the miscibility gap of the multicomponent immiscible alloy to produce the spherical crystalline particles in the amorphous matrix.

Alloy solidification in systems containing a liquid miscibility gap
TL;DR: In this article, the phase spacings and transitions in microstructure are discussed in terms of diffusion processes at the monotectic front, with reference to the relative surface energies between two immiscible liquids and a third (solid) phase.

A criterion for the determination of monotectic structure
Brian Derby,J.-J. Favier +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a new model to determine whether a regular or irregular morphology occurs is proposed, based on an existing model of eutectic growth, which accurately predicts the behaviour of five monotectic systems which are well characterised in terms of interfacial energies and thermodynamics of the reaction.
