The problem of a late quaternary landbridge between Britain and Ireland

R. J. N. Devoy
- 01 Jan 1985 -
- Vol. 4, Iss: 1, pp 43-58
TLDR
The question of whether a possible landbridge(s) existed between Britain and Ireland during Devensian (Midlandian) Late-glacial and Holocene time is analysed in the light of new geological and related environmental information as mentioned in this paper.

Glaciation and sea-level change for Ireland and the Irish Sea since Late Devensian/Midlandian time

TL;DR: In this article, the authors compared the predictions of sea-level change, based on glacio-hydro-isostatic models, with observations to constrain the ice volume over Ireland at the time of the last glacial maximum and the maximum ice height appears to have been of the order of 600 m.

The Irish quaternary fauna project

TL;DR: The authors in this article assessed the chronological range of the mammalian species present in the caves using 14C dating, in particular accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) and found that a wide range of mammals colonised Ireland in the period between at least 45 ka and 20 ka, with some elements surviving until close to the Last Glacial Maximum.

Caledonian scots pine: origins and genetic structure

TL;DR: The genetic evidence suggests that the Caledonian race of Scots pine originated endemically from more than one refugium after the last glaciation, and shows relatively little genetic affinity between contemporary Scottish and continental European populations.

The ecology and distribution of the littoral freshwater Chydoridae (Branchiopoda, Anomopoda) of Ireland, with taxonomic comments on some species

C. A. Duigan
- 01 Sep 1992 -
TL;DR: This paper is the first comprehensive review of the littoral freshwater Chydoridae (Branchiopoda, Anomopoda) of Ireland and reports on a countrywide survey, during which a total of 316 samples was taken at 287 sampling sites between March, 1984 and June, 1986.

The early-Holocene spread of hazel (Corylus avellana L.) in Europe north and west of the Alps: an ecological hypothesis:

P. A. Tallantire
- 01 Jan 2002 -
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a comprehensive survey of all the life history stages of hazel in relation to climatic and other factors, together with indications from radiocarbon dates of the'rise' phenomenon, not of arbitrary pollen percentage values, for sites north of the Alps.

Eustasy and Geoid Changes

TL;DR: The instability of the geoid configuration has not been considered previously as mentioned in this paper, but it is related to fundamental geophysical-astronomical problem and geoid changes must certainly have occurred during the Phanerozoic and the Late Quaternary.

The mode and mechanism of the last deglaciation: Oceanic evidence

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that half of the Northern Hemisphere ice volume at the last glacial maximum had disappeared by 13,000-16,000 yr B.P., despite the still-extensive limits of the ice sheets.
