The Sharpe Ratio
TLDR
The Sharpe Index as mentioned in this paper is a measure for the performance of mutual funds and proposed the term reward-to-variability ratio to describe it (the measure is also described in Sharpe [1975] ).Abstract:
. Over 25 years ago, in Sharpe [1966], I introduced a measure for the performance of mutual funds and proposed the term reward-to-variability ratio to describe it (the measure is also described in Sharpe [1975] ). While the measure has gained considerable popularity, the name has not. Other authors have termed the original version the Sharpe Index (Radcliff [1990, p. 286] and Haugen [1993, p. 315]), the Sharpe Measure (Bodie, Kane and Marcus [1993, p. 804], Elton and Gruber [1991, p. 652], and Reilly [1989, p.803]), or the Sharpe Ratio (Morningstar [1993, p. 24]). Generalized versions have also appeared under various names (see. for example, BARRA [1992, p. 21] and Capaul, Rowley and Sharpe [1993, p. 33]).read more

Is a probabilistic modeling really useful in financial engineering
TL;DR: A new standpoint on financial time series, without the use of any mathematical model and of probabilistic tools, yields not only a rigorous approach of trends and volatility, but also efficient calculations which were already successfully applied in automatic control and in signal processing.

A Genetic Algorithm (GA) Approach to the Portfolio Design Based on Market Movements and Asset Valuations
TL;DR: This study applied a Genetic Algorithm to optimize portfolios while incorporating the momentum strategy and the asset valuations, and the proposed CAPM+ method was found to be very effective in financial data analysis and to lay a groundwork for a sustainable investment execution.

A Network and Machine Learning Approach to Factor, Asset, and Blended Allocation
TL;DR: The authors argue that factor exposure is desired within asset allocation and argue that network analysis can be used to derive allocation, monitor interactions, and provide additional layers of risk control mechanisms.

Optimal investment with a value-at-risk constraint
TL;DR: In this article, a constrained investment problem with the objective of minimizing the ruin probability is considered, where the authors formulate the cash reserve and investment model for an insurance company and analyze the value-at-risk.
