The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory

TLDR
The Spanish version of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) was translated into Spanish with the assistance of psychologists from 10 different Latin Ameriaconic countries as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract
The goal of this study was to describe the construction of scales for measuring- state (A-State) and trait (A-Trait) anxiety that would be suitable for use in interamerican, cross-cultural research. The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (Spielberger, et al., 1970) was translated into Spanish with the assistance of psychologists from 10 different Latin American countries. To evaluate the reliability and equivalence of the Spanish and English forms of the STAI, these scales were given in counterbalanced order to bilingual 5s in Texas and Puerto Rico. In both samples, high item- remainder correlations and alpha coefficients ranging from .82 to .95 established the internal consistency of the Spanish A-State and A-Trait scales. Evidence of the equivalence of these scales was provided by correlations between the Spanish and English forms that ranged from .83 to .94. High test-retest reliability was also found for the Spanish A-Trait scale but not for the A-State scale. As expected, the A-State scale was influenced by transitory situational stress, whereas the A-Trait scale was stable over time. It was concluded that the Spanish STAI provides internally consistent and reliable scales for measuring state and trait anxiety which are essentially equivalent to the English STAI A-State and A-Trait scales.

Depressed Pregnant Black Women Have a Greater Incidence of Prematurity and Low Birthweight Outcomes

TL;DR: The depressed women had higher anxiety, anger, daily hassles, sleep disturbance scores and cortisol levels at both prenatal visits, which may have contributed to the greater incidence of prematurity and low birthweight neonatal outcomes noted in the depressed group.

Vasopressin analog (DDAVP) facilitates concept learning in human males

TL;DR: DDAVP enhanced learning of all problems on a concept shift task but had no effect on visual memory, anxiety, blood pressure or heart rate, suggesting that DDAVP may influence memory via its actions on attention.

Opiate reduction in chronic pain patients - a comparison of patient-controlled reduction and staff controlled cocktail methods

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that both reduction methods can produce substantial reduction in opiate use by severely impaired chronic pain patients with long medication histories, and admission opiate dose level was the best predictor both of abstinence at discharge and of subsequent opiates dose level in non‐abstinent patients.

Gender Differences in the Causal Elements of Self-Efficacy on a High Avoidance Motor Task

TL;DR: In this article, the authors compared path analysis models for 40 males and 40 females based on the predictions of Feltz's (1982) respecification model of Ban-dura' s (1977) self-efficacy theory in the approach/avoidance of two trials of a modified back dive.

Factors that influence adolescent adaptation to sickle cell disease.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined whether psychosocial factors play a more important role than biomedical risk factors in predicting adolescent adaptation to sickle cell disease (SCD); to determine whether psycho-social factors moderate the relationship between biomedical risk factor and adaptation.
