Abstract
New editions of Wasser Kalender 1979 [1) and the Manual on Water [2) have been published. A bibliography on water resources in arid and semiarid regions contains 140 abstracts, 31 of which are new entries. The bibliography covers reports on water quality, resource management, potable water, consumption and irrigation, particularly those in the western regions of the U.S. [3). Causes of the shortage of clean water were examined with heavy emphasis placed on the problems of the U.S. Among the solutions that the aurhor suggests are desalination and weather modification [4). The trend of the future and solution to the water crisis will come primarily from increasing emphasis placed on tapping underground reservoirs and desalination of seawater. The solution will also involve judicions water management [5).

New improvements in ultraviolet sterilization of desalted and reuse water

J.E. Cruver, +1 more
- 01 Jan 1980 -
TL;DR: The Ultraviolet Technology, Inc. (UTI) process overcomes operation and maintenance problems linked to quartz tubes which separate the ultraviolet source from the water by using ultraviolet transmitting fluorocarbon tubes to contain the water during sterilization.
Journal ArticleDOI

A partitioning procedure for water quality management models

TL;DR: In this paper, an improved computational procedure for solving water quality management models containing interacting pollutants and control policies is presented with respect to the specific problem of minimizing the costs of basinwide thermal and organic pollution control to meet water quality standards.

The role of desalination in water reuse

O.K. Buros
- 01 Jan 1980 -
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors considered reuse of water in an area where seawater desalination will be used to produce the basic water source, overall water resource development costs should be considered before selection of the basic desalification process.
Journal ArticleDOI

Desalination and the reuse of agricultural drainage waters in Saudi Arabia.

TL;DR: The feasibility of incorporating desalination in an overall scheme for the reuse of agricultural drainage waters was investigated and it was found that capital and production costs, for water produced via this route, are far lower than those of more conventional methods.
