TLDR
In this paper, the simple oxidation of a binary alloy to form an adherent and uniform scale (A 2 O m ) was examined theoretically, using the finite difference method, and compared with observations of the oxidation behaviour of Fe Cr alloy at 1250°K in the composition range 20-100%Cr.

The oxidation of alloys

TL;DR: A review of principles governing alloy oxidation is presented together with the means by which practical oxidation-resistance alloys have been developed in this paper, where an attempt is made to show how the development of oxidation theory has contributed to this effort by a term now referred to as "informed empiricism".

Influence of silicon additions on the oxidation resistance of a stainless steel

TL;DR: In this article, a series of 20Cr-25Ni stainless steels containing a dispersion of TiN particles and with silicon contents ranging from 0.05 to 2.35 wt.

Modelling the thermal oxidation of ternary alloys—compositional changes in the alloy and the development of oxide phases

TL;DR: In this article, a coupled thermodynamic-kinetic oxidation model is presented that describes the thermal oxidation of a single-phase ternary alloy, and the model computes composition-depth profiles in the alloy, as well as the amount of each oxide phase developed as a function of oxidation time, including formation of multiple oxide phases during the initial stage of fast oxidation.

Modelling of composition and phase changes in multiphase alloys due to growth of an oxide layer

TL;DR: In this article, a coupled thermodynamic-kinetic oxidation model is presented for the selective, external oxidation of the most reactive alloy constituent of a multicomponent multiphase alloy.

Alloy depletion profiles resulting from the preferential removal of the less noble metal during alloy oxidation

TL;DR: In this paper, an analytical solution to the diffusion equation is developed for the case when a phase change occurs in the alloy because of less noble metal depletion and an expression is also presented for the profile developed in the limiting case where depletion is determined by scale evaporation.

Theoretical Analysis of the Diffusion Processes Determining the Oxidation Rate of Alloys

TL;DR: In this paper, the interplay of diffusion processes in metallic and oxide phases during the oxidation of alloys is analyzed theoretically for specified ideal conditions, and it is shown that two oxides may nucleate initially and continue to grow even under conditions under which exclusive formation of the oxide of the less noble metal is a possible process.

Self diffusion in iron

TL;DR: In this paper, the temperature dependence of the self-diffusion coefficient in face-centered cubic and in bodycentered cubic iron can be expressed as follows (in cm2/sec): Gamma-iron: D = 0.18 exp (−64,500/RT), Alpha-iron (paramagnetic): D = 1.9 exp (−57.200/RT) (above 790° C) Alpha -iron (ferromagnetic), D = 2.0 exp (−60,000/RT).

Characteristic fluorescence corrections in electron-probe microanalysis

TL;DR: In this paper, a method was developed for calculating characteristic fluorescence corrections in all cases involving K and L lines, based on the formula derived by Castaing for the case of one K line exciting another K line.
