In this paper, a nonlinear method bearing the same relationship to Thomson scattering as CARS does to linear Raman spectroscopy is discussed, and its properties are compared to the more common linear Thomson technique.
Abstract
Thomson scattering is reviewed as a diagnostic technique for the determination of electron energy distributions and concentrations in a plasma. Both theoretical and experimental aspects are considered, and scattering spectra which would be expected for high voltage spark discharges and inductively coupled plasmas at atmospheric pressure are computed. A nonlinear method bearing the same relationship to Thomson scattering as CARS does to linear Raman spectroscopy is mentioned, and its properties are compared to the more common linear Thomson technique. Related plasma diagnostics involving high power laser scattering are also discussed.

Non-thermal features of atmospheric-pressure argon and helium microwave-induced plasmas observed by laser-light Thomson scattering and Rayleigh scattering

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors measured the Thomson-light Thomson scattering and Rayleigh scattering from a microwave-induced plasma sustained at atmospheric pressure, using both argon and helium as a support gas.

Transport phenomena in a completely ionized gas

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of mutual electron encounters is considered as a problem of diffusion in velocity space, taking into account a term which previously had been neglected, and the appropriate integro-differential equations are then solved numerically.

A review of the theory and application of coherent anti-Stokes Raman Spectroscopy (CARS)

TL;DR: Coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (CARS) as mentioned in this paper is a relatively new kind of Raman Spectroscopy which is based on a nonlinear conversion of two laser beams into a coherent, laser-like Raman beam of high intensity in the anti-stokes region.
