TLDR
Clams showed a complex pattern due to the variability introduced by size-related factors and the natural dynamics of SPM in the estuary, while Cr and Mn showed an apparent reverse industrial trend with higher concentrations in clams collected at distant stations near the turbidity maximum zone, possibly reflecting enhanced particle retention.

Journal ArticleDOI

The effect of lead on seed imbibition and germination in different plant species

TL;DR: It was shown thatLead delayed germination and lowered the ability of seeds to germinate in a dose-dependent manner in the species with highly lead-permeable seed coats, and seed coat permeability varied during imbibition of seeds with coats highly permeable to lead.
Journal ArticleDOI

Distribution, sources and consequences of nutrients, persistent organic pollutants, metals and microplastics in South American estuaries.

TL;DR: Estuarine conservation plans should consider year-round fluctuations of the ecocline and the resulting cycles of retention and flush of environmental signals and their influence on trophic webs over the whole extent of estuarine gradients.
Journal ArticleDOI

Grain size effect on multi-element concentrations in sediments from the intertidal flats of Bohai Bay, China

TL;DR: In the intertidal flats of Bohai Bay, China, the spatial distribution of the grain size of sediments becomes coarser from landward to seaward, and the results show that sediment texture plays a controlling role on the concentrations and their spatial distribution as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Wildlife as sentinels of human health effects in the Great Lakes--St. Lawrence basin.

TL;DR: Formalizing health effects monitoring of sentinel wildlife species by the parties to the Canada-USA Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement is required to facilitate the optimal use of sent Sentinel wildlife health data in a larger, epidemiologic weight-of-evidence context upon which to base decisions and policies regarding the effects of chemical exposures on human populations.
