Traffic engineering in heterogeneous millimeter-wave and lte small cell systems

TLDR
In this article, traffic engineering functionalities are described in a heterogeneous network that includes an anchor base station serving a cellular macro cell and booster base stations serving mm-wave enabled small cells.
Abstract
Traffic engineering functionalities are described in a heterogeneous network that includes an anchor base station serving a cellular macro cell and booster base stations serving mmWave enabled small cells. The described functionalities are designed to cope with dynamic changes in the heterogeneous environment such as loss of a backhaul link between the anchor base station and the booster base station, loss of a link between a terminal and one of the base stations, and loss of beam forming in a mmWave link between the terminal and the booster base station.

System and method for beam management

TL;DR: In this paper, the first UE may determine that beam tracking is to be performed with the UE, including identifying a new beam for communication between the UE and the apparatus, and then the UE may perform beam tracking based on the UE's decision.

System and method for beam adjustment request

TL;DR: In this article, a beam adjustment request is sent to the base station to indicate an index associated with the selected beam, which is used to determine a beam index of a beam in the first set of beams based on the request and at least one resource.

Millimeter-Wave Cellular Wireless Networks: Potentials and Challenges

TL;DR: Measurements and capacity studies are surveyed to assess mmW technology with a focus on small cell deployments in urban environments and it is shown that mmW systems can offer more than an order of magnitude increase in capacity over current state-of-the-art 4G cellular networks at current cell densities.

Apparatus and method for supporting network entry in a millimeter-wave mobile broadband communication system

Li Ying, +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, a method for a base station to support network entry of a mobile station in a communication system is provided, which includes transmitting to the mobile station each of a plurality of transmitted network entry signals over a preferred downlink beam corresponding to the transmitted network entries.

Anchor-booster based heterogeneous networks with mmWave capable booster cells

TL;DR: This work investigates the challenges in deploying an anchor-booster based HetNet with mmWave capable booster cells and shows that due to the channel characteristics of mmWave bands, there could be a mismatch between the discoverable coverage area of booster cell at mmWave band and the actual supportable Coverage mismatch.

Millimeter-wave transceiver with coarse and fine beamforming with interference suppression and method

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe a millimeter-wave transceiver configured for multipath reception of multicarrier signals with coarse and fine beam steering with interference suppression, including a channel-estimation block to generate a set of weighting coefficients for each subarray based on channel characteristics determined from each sub-array, and maximum-ratio combining (MRC) circuitry to combine the weighted baseband signals from each Sub-array to generate combined baseband signal that represent a single data stream.
