Effectiveness factor under cyclic operation of a reactor
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reported on the influence of intraparticle diffusion on the measured rate of reaction under cyclic operation of an ammonia synthesis reactor in a condition where the feed composition is changing periodically and the effectiveness factor calculated relative to the steady state kinetic rates for the time-average feed condition for fine particles was higher than the comparable steady-state effectiveness factor as a result of the rate improvement due to cycling.

Emissions from in-use catalyst vehicles
TL;DR: In this article, a sample of fortynine catalysts equipped vehicles operated in the Albany, New York area have been tested idle "as received" condition for gaseous and particulate emissions at approximately 5,000 mile intervals.

Uniqueness of the steady state solutions for chemical reactor occurring in a catalyst particle or in a tubular reaction with axial diffusion
Dan Luss,Neal R. Amundson +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that for any reaction mixture the possibility of multiple steady states can usually be eliminated by use of small catalyst particles, or a dilute mixture, and that in this case one can usually guarantee a unique steady state by using either a small reaction mixture or a short reactor.

Modelling of chemical reactors — X Multiple solutions of enthalpy and mass balances for a catalytic reaction within a porous catalyst particle
TL;DR: In this article, two conditions for the existence of multiple solutions were stated: (1) the value of parameter γβ has to be greater than a certain critical value, (γβ)*, and (2) Thiele's modulus has to simultaneously be simultaneously in the definite range φ1 ⩽ φ ⩾ φ2 on the basis of the model, where the state of the particle is described by means of mean values of concentration and temperature.

The stability of a reaction with intra-particle diffusion of mass and heat: The Liapunov methods in a metric function space
TL;DR: For a chemical reaction in a porous catalyst particle in the presence of heat and mass diffusion, the stability of steady state solutions is analyzed by extending the two methods of Liapunov to a function space with a suitable metric as discussed by the authors.

A simple method for the calculation of effectiveness factors
W.R. Paterson,D.L. Cresswell +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a simple method is derived for predicting the effectiveness factor for a reaction of arbitrary kinetics, occurring within a porous catalyst pellet, using an orthogonal collocation technique.

Diffusion and reaction on spherical catalyst pellets: steady state- and local stability analysis
M.L. Michelsen,J. Villadsen +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a stepwise integration process with collocation at the zeros of Legendre polynomials within each step is used to solve the heat and mass balances for reaction on spherical catalyst pellets.
