Two African Viruses Serologically and Morphologically Related to Rabies Virus

TLDR
Lagos bat virus and an isolate from shrews were found to be bullet-shaped and to mature intracytoplasmically in association with a distinct matrix, and form a subgrouping within the rhabdoviruses.
Abstract
Lagos bat virus and an isolate from shrews (IbAn 27377), both from Nigeria, were found to be bullet-shaped and to mature intracytoplasmically in association with a distinct matrix. They were related to, but readily distinguishable from, rabies virus and each other by complement fixation and neutralization tests. The three viruses, including rabies, form a subgrouping within the rhabdoviruses.

Protection from rabies by a vaccinia virus recombinant containing the rabies virus glycoprotein gene

TL;DR: V-RGpro8 virus was highly effective in priming mice to generate a secondary rabies virus-specific cytotoxic T-lymphocyte response following culture of lymphocytes with either ERA or PM strains of rabiesirus.

Rabies virus glycoprotein. II. Biological and serological characterization.

TL;DR: The total protective activity of the virus was recovered in the purified G protein preparation, and it can be considered the ideal human antirabies vaccine.

Reproduction of Rhabdoviruses

TL;DR: The rhabdoviruses are ubiquitous, highly infectious agents of animal and plant disease and are generally transmitted by arthropods and are, therefore, susceptible to disruption by ether and detergents.

Phylogenetic relationships of Irkut and West Caucasian bat viruses within the Lyssavirus genus and suggested quantitative criteria based on the N gene sequence for lyssavirus genotype definition.

TL;DR: Irkut virus should be considered as a new genotype with particular relatedness to genotypes 4 and 5, and genotype 4-6, together with Aravan, Khujand and Irkut viruses, present a solid phylogroup of Old World bat lyssaviruses.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bat lyssaviruses (Aravan and Khujand) from Central Asia: phylogenetic relationships according to N, P and G gene sequences.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors sequenced the entire N, P and G genes of both Aravan and Khujand viruses and compared them with respective sequences of other lyssavirus available from GenBank.

Isolation of a virus from Nigerian fruit bats

TL;DR: Serological tests indicate that a virus which is pathogenic for mice has been isolated from a pool containing the brains of six fruit bats, probably a previously undescribed agent for which the name of Lagos Bat Virus is proposed.

Morphology of the Nucleoprotein Component of Rabies Virus

TL;DR: The intracytoplasmic ground substance, or matrix, associated with the development of rabies virus and the nucleocapsid of the virus were investigated and appeared as a single-stranded helix with a diameter of 16 nm and a periodicity of 7.5 nm.
