Updating the adaptive relation between climate and comfort indoors; new insights and an extended database

TLDR
In this article, the authors developed a method to derive a standard sensitivity to indoor temperatures change, which is used to estimate the comfort temperatures and to establish a curve relating the probability of discomfort to the temperature-difference from the current optimum.

A localized adaptive comfort model for free-running low-income housing in Mumbai, India

TL;DR: In this paper , a novel Adaptive Comfort for Low-Income Housing (ACL) model was proposed for the free-running low-income housing of Mumbai, India through a longitudinal field study method.

Effect of Different HVAC Control Strategies on Thermal Comfort and Adaptive Behavior in High-Rise Apartments

Ji-Hye Ryu, +1 more
- 25 Oct 2021 -
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explored how a HVAC control strategy for high-rise apartment buildings can affect occupant comfort and adaptive behavior and found that the comfort-zone control strategy is more energy/comfort efficient than occupant control.

Thermal Comfort Assessment Based on Measurement and Questionnaire Surveys in a Large Mechanically Ventilated Space

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a thermal comfort study in a large occupied office (floor-to-ceiling height >5m) ventilated by a simple mixing ventilation system.

Investigating the effects of climate on thermal adaptation: A comparative field study in naturally ventilated university classrooms

TL;DR: In this paper , 17 naturally ventilated university classrooms from 10 different buildings located in two sub-climates of Italy (Mediterranean climate) and France (Continental climate) were analyzed.

Investigation of Summertime Thermal Comfort at the residences of Elderly People in the Warm and Humid Climate of India

D. Kannamma
- 01 May 2023 -
TL;DR: In this article , the authors determine the thermal comfort range of elderly people in residences of warm and humid climates during summers in India and to find out the adaptive actions opted by the elderly population to achieve thermal comfort.

Developing an adaptive model of thermal comfort and preference - eScholarship

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the semantics of thermal comfort in terms of thermal sensation, acceptability, and preference, as a function of both indoor and outdoor temperature, as predicted by the adaptive hypothesis.

Developing an adaptive model of thermal comfort and preference

TL;DR: In this paper, the adaptive hypothesis predicts that contextual factors and past thermal history modify building occupants' thermal expectations and preferences, which is contrary to static assumptions underlying the current ASHRAE comfort standard 55-92.

A standard predictive index of human response to the thermal environment

TL;DR: The three rational indices of this type to be considered are ASHRAE's Standard Effective Temperature (SET*) Index, defined as the equivalent dry bulb temperature of an isothermal environment at 50% RH in which a subject, while wearing clothing standardized for activity concerned, would have the same heat stress (skin temperature T/sub sk/) and thermo-regulatory strain (skin wettedness, w) as in the actual test environment; Fanger's Predicted Mean Vote (PMV) index, defined in terms of the heat load that would be required to restore
