TLDR
To study patterns of variability at a large number of loci, restriction fragment length polymorphism genotypes at 25 loci in a germ-plasm collection of 102 T. tauschii accessions were determined and Hedrick's probability of genotypic identity, botanical varieties T. typica and T. anathera were very similar to each other.
Abstract
Triticum tauschii (Coss.) Schmal. (genome DD), a diploid progenitor of hexaploid wheat (Triticum aestivum L.; AABBDD), grows across large areas of southwest Asia and contains more genetic variability for disease and insect resistance, isozymes, and seed storage proteins than the D genome of T. aestivum. To study patterns of variability at a large number of loci, we determined restriction fragment length polymorphism genotypes at 25 loci in a germ-plasm collection of 102 T. tauschii accessions. All accessions were homozygous at all loci, so "alleles" and "genotypes" were equivalent. Twenty loci were polymorphic, with two to six genotypes per locus and polymorphic indexes ranging from 0.06 to 0.74. Linkage disequilibrium was widespread. On the basis of Hedrick's probability of genotypic identity, botanical varieties T. t. ssp. eusquarrosa var. typica and T. t. ssp. eusquarrosa var. anathera were very similar to each other, as were T. t. ssp. strangulata and T. t. ssp. eusquarrosa var. meyeri, with a large g...

Genes encoding plastid acetyl-CoA carboxylase and 3-phosphoglycerate kinase of the Triticum/Aegilops complex and the evolutionary history of polyploid wheat

TL;DR: The data suggest that the Acc-1 and Pgk-1 loci have different histories in different lineages, indicating genome mosaicity and significant intraspecific differentiation.

The structure of the Aegilops tauschii genepool and the evolution of hexaploid wheat

TL;DR: Polymorphism in the lengths of restriction fragments at 53 single-copy loci, the rRNA locus Nor3, and the high-molecular-weight glutenin locus Glu1 was investigated in the D genome of hexaploid Triticum aestivum and that of Aegilops tauschii, and all appear to share a single D-genome genepool.

Wheat genetic diversity trends during domestication and breeding

TL;DR: The results indicate that breeders averted the narrowing of the wheat germplasm base and subsequently increased the genetic diversity through the introgression of novel materials.

DNA Markers and Plant Breeding Programs

TL;DR: This chapter attempts to survey the status of selected applications of DNA fingerprinting for activities of common interest to plant breeding programs and, ultimately, crop improvement.

A genetic linkage map of Triticum tauschii (DD) and its relationship to the D genome of bread wheat (AABBDD)

TL;DR: One hundred and seventy-eight loci have been mapped in Triticum tauschii (Coss.), and a hypervariable sequence was identified, which may have potential use in varietal fingerprinting.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors derived necessary and sufficient conditions for a solution to exist in real Euclidean space for a multivariate multivariate sample of size n as points P1, P2,..., PI in a Euclidian space and discussed the interpretation of the distance A(Pi, Pj) between the ith and jth members of the sample.

Sampling variances of heterozygosity and genetic distance

TL;DR: The utility of the inter-locus variance of heterozygosity for studying the mechanism of maintenance of genetic variability in populations is indicated and mathematical formulae for the sampling variances are developed.

Inferences about linkage disequilibrium.

TL;DR: General use of Burrows' composite measure of linkage disequilibrium, whether or not random union of gametes is an appropriate assumption, is recommended and attention is given to small samples, where the non-normality of gene frequencies will have greatest effect on methods of inference based on normal theory.
