Journal ArticleDOI
A silent myocardial infarction with normal coronary arteries associated with Graves' disease.
TL;DR: Patients with GD-associated silent MI are unusual and early recognition and diagnosis by clinicians provide a better prognosis, demonstrating the importance of ECG and cTnI screening among GD patients.
Journal ArticleDOI

Life-Threatening Ventricular Arrhythmias in Patients with Silent Myocardial Ischemia Due to Coronary Artery Spasm
Robert J. Myerburg,Kenneth M. Kessler,Kenneth M. Kessler,Stephen Mallon,Marilyn M. Cox,Eduardo DeMarchena,Alberto Interian,Agustin Castellanos +7 more
TL;DR: Silent ischemic events were associated with the initiation of life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias in five patients with induced or spontaneous focal coronary-artery spasm and reperfusion, rather than ischemia itself, correlated with the onset of the ventriculararrhythmia.

Characterization and outcomes of women and men with non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction and nonobstructive coronary artery disease: results from the Can Rapid Risk Stratification of Unstable Angina Patients Suppress Adverse Outcomes with Early Implementation of the ACC/AHA Guidelines (CRUSADE) quality improvement initiative.
Erika R. Gehrie,Harmony R. Reynolds,Anita Y. Chen,Brian H. Neelon,Matthew T. Roe,W. Brian Gibler,E. Magnus Ohman,L. Kristin Newby,Eric D. Peterson,Judith S. Hochman +9 more
TL;DR: Among NSTE ACS patients undergoing coronary angiography, absence of obstructive CAD is more common in women than men, and unadjusted in-hospital outcomes of NSTEMI patients with nonobstructive CAD are favorable in both sexes.

Diffuse disorder of coronary artery vasomotility in patients with coronary spastic angina: Hyperreactivity to the constrictor effects of acetylcholine and the dilator effects of nitroglycerin
Ken Okumura,Hirofumi Yasue,Kozaburo Matsuyama,Hisao Ogawa,Kiyotaka Kugiyama,Hiroshi Ishizaka,Hitoshi Sumida,Hiromi Fujii,Toshiro Matsunaga,Ryusuke Tsunoda +9 more
TL;DR: Hyperreactive responses not only to the constrictor effects of acetylcholine, but also the dilator effects of nitroglycerin were detected diffusely in the epicardial coronary arteries of patients with coronary spastic angina, indicating that a diffuse, not localized, disorder in vasomotility is involved in the pathogenesis of coronary spastics angina.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spontaneous coronary artery spasm in variant angina is caused by a local hyperreactivity to a generalized constrictor stimulus
TL;DR: To assess whether spontaneous coronary artery spasm in patients with variant angina results from local coronary hyperreactivity to a generalized constrictor stimulus or from a stimulus generated only at the site of the hyperreactive segment, the behavior of spastic and nonspastic coronary segments was studied in six patients with variants angina.

Severe coronary artery spasm can be associated with hyperthyroidism.
Yoon-Ho Choi,Jae Hoon Chung,Sung Won Bae,Won-Ha Lee,Euy-Myoung Jeong,Min Gyung Kang,Byung Jin Kim,Kwang-Won Kim,Jeong Euy Park +8 more
TL;DR: A severe form of coronary artery spasm could be associated with hyperthyroidism, and a high level of suspicion and the thyroid function study should be mandatory for patients with coronary arteries spasm, especially for the young female patients.
