Venous Endothelial Damage Produced by Massive Sticking and Emigration of Leukocytes

TL;DR: A scanning and transmission electron microscope study of canine jugular and femoral veins revealed that large numbers of white cells adhered to the vessel walls, passed through the endothelial intercellular junctions and accumulated in pockets between the endothelium and basement membrane.
Journal ArticleDOI

Interleukin-6: a potential target for post-thrombotic syndrome.

TL;DR: In this article, the role of interleukin-6 in the progression of vein wall fibrosis was investigated in a mouse model of DVT, and the results suggest that IL-6 may serve as a therapeutic target to prevent the fibrotic complications seen in PTS.
Journal ArticleDOI

The role of galectin-3 and galectin-3-binding protein in venous thrombosis.

TL;DR: In this paper, a mouse stasis model of venous thrombosis was used to investigate the role of the Galectin-3-binding protein (Gal3BP) and its receptor/ligand, Gal3 (gal3), and found that the Gal3BP and Gal3 were localized on vein wall, red blood cells, platelets, and microparticles, whereas leukocytes expressed gal3 only.
Journal ArticleDOI

Impaired adhesion of neutrophils expressing Slc44a2/HNA-3b to VWF protects against NETosis under venous shear rates.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors found that neutrophil adhesion and activation was enhanced when neutrophils are preactivated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and when specific shear conditions with high neutrophIL concentration could act as a "second hit", inducing the formation of extracellular traps.
