Comparing cost-benefit analysis and multi-criteria analysis
TL;DR: Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA) and Multi-Criteria Analysis (MCA) have been compared in this paper, where the authors provide an in-depth comparison of costbenefit analysis and MCA by reviewing the literature which elaborates on the differences between them.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
ABC+: extended action-benefit-cost modeling with knowledge-based decision-making and interaction model for system of systems simulation
TL;DR: This paper proposes ABC+ modeling, which supports the three-phased knowledge-based decision-making and the message-based interaction models and lets SoS-level behavior simulation by different interaction patterns be possible, which cannot be even represented in ABC modeling.
Using choice modelling to investigate equity preferences
TL;DR: In this paper, a staged preference technique is used for the estimation of equity preferences in benefit cost analysis (BCA) and it is demonstrated that using choice modeling enables respondents' equity preferences to be elicited and distributional weights suitable for application in BCA to be estimated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Optimisation of Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis (Vectobac®) applications for the blackfly control programme on the Orange River, South Africa
TL;DR: In this article, an optimisation technique applied in the West African Onchocerciasis Control Programme, to a 136 km stretch of the Orange River which includes 31 blackfly breeding sites, was demonstrated that 28.5% less larvicide could be used to potentially achieve the same control of blackfly.

Plant Ecological Strategies: Some Leading Dimensions of Variation Between Species
TL;DR: The leaf mass per area–leaf lifespan (LMA-LL) dimension expresses slow turnover of plant parts, long nutrient residence times, and slow response to favorable growth conditions.

Can Electronic Medical Record Systems Transform Health Care? Potential Health Benefits, Savings, And Costs
Richard Hillestad,James H. Bigelow,Anthony G. Bower,Federico Girosi,Robin Meili,Richard Scoville,Roger Taylor +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the potential health and financial benefits of health information technology (HIT) are examined and the potential savings and costs of widespread adoption of electronic medical record (EMR) systems, models important health and safety benefits, and concludes that effective EMR implementation and networking could eventually save more than $81 billion annually.

Assessment of adaptation practices, options, constraints and capacity
WN Adger,S Agrawal,Mmw Mirza,Cecilia Conde,Karen O'Brien,Juan M. Pulhin,Roger S. Pulwarty,Barry Smit,Kiyoshi Takahashi +8 more
TL;DR: Enright et al. as discussed by the authors presented the Enright-Fankhauser-Gabel-Nantel-Klein model, which is based on the work of the authors of this paper.

Considering the energy, water and food nexus: Towards an integrated modelling approach
Morgan Bazilian,Holger Rogner,Mark Howells,Sebastian Hermann,Douglas J. Arent,Dolf Gielen,Pasquale Steduto,Alexander Mueller,Paul Komor,Richard S.J. Tol,Kandeh K. Yumkella +10 more
TL;DR: The areas of energy, water and food policy have numerous interwoven concerns ranging from ensuring access to services, to environmental impacts to price volatility as mentioned in this paper, and these issues manifest in very di...

Sustainable Tourism: An Overview of the Concept and its Position in Relation to Conceptualisations of Tourism
TL;DR: In this article, the authors argue that sustainable tourism has traditionally given more focus to aspects related to the environment and economic development, and that more focus should be given to community involvement.
