In this article, the fatigue strength of the double lap joint has been experimentally measured under completely reversed cyclic loading and the resulting fatigue strength assessment was conservative with respect to the experimental results.Abstract:
AbstractsHigh-strength steel hybrid joints that combine adhesive and bolts have been studied both experimentally and numerically. The fatigue strength of the double lap joint has been experimentally measured under completely reversed cyclic loading. Finite element analysis was used to estimate the stress state at the contact interface of the lap joint. The fatigue strength of bonded and clamped interfaces which have previously been characterized using napkin ring specimens has been combined with the finite element results. The region of the double lap joint which showed fretting damage corresponded well with the region estimated to have significant damage based on the assessment. The resulting fatigue strength assessment was conservative with respect to the experimental results.read more

Influence of interference-fit size on bearing fatigue response of single-lap carbon fiber reinforced polymer/Ti alloy bolted joints
TL;DR: In this article, the effect of interference-fit size on the fretting fatigue life, hole elongation, and circumferential strain of carbon fiber-reinforced polymer(CFRP)/Ti alloy bolted joints was investigated.
Shear fatigue of adhesively bonded frictional interfaces in high-strength steel
TL;DR: In this paper, a new experimental method is introduced for characterising the idealised bonded and clamped interface under shear fatigue loading, which involves a bonded annular contact interface subjected to a well-defined and uniform stress state of constant normal stress and alternating shear stress.

Shear fatigue of the bonded and frictional interface under constant normal pre-stress
Susanna Hurme,Gary Marquis +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a phenomenological model of fatigue damage was proposed based on the experimentally-measured compliance of the modified napkin ring specimen, and the cohesive zone law describing the quasi-static fracture of the interface was re-formulated to include the effect of fatigue damages.

Strength Analysis of Bolts Connection of Composite Plywood of Low-Noise Brake Beam
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used the method of combining theory with finite element numerical analysis to check and analyze the strength of the bolts during the braking process of a freight train, and the results showed that the bolt pretension is uneven and the friction coefficient between the friction plate and the brake caliper has a great influence on the bolt strength.

The Phenomena of Rupture and Flow in Solids
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the effect of surface scratches on the mechanical strength of solids, and some general conclusions were reached which appear to have a direct bearing on the problem of rupture, from an engineering standpoint, and also on the larger question of the nature of intermolecular cohesion.
