We report for the first time the full experimental assessment of an adaptive PMD compensator at 40 Gb/s over realistic PMD statistics.
We show that PMD impairments are virtually completely eliminated in the optical OFDM system using this technique.
MSC represents a possible tool of cellular therapeutics for PMD.
The technique allows full characterization of the second-order PMD.
An experimental analysis over 2000 random draws of PMD conditions over an SSMF link shows that PMD can improve significantly system performance.
Our experimental results link the actual higher order PMD to the observed system penalty and therefore a quantitative evaluation is possible.
Using numerical simulations, we demonstrate good fidelity of the DBPMD emulator in approximating randomly selected spectra of PMD vectors.
Measured PMD spectra are favorably compared with coherent PMD theory.
We show, from analytical results, the counterintuitive fact that this scheme can also partially compensate for higher order PMD.
