Our study highlights the different roles meeting leaders need to juggle to run meetings effectively.
However, a dedicated staff, sufficient resources, adequate time and proper meeting places are needed to accomplish good collaboration.
Findings – Pre-meeting small talk was a significant predictor of meeting effectiveness, even while considering good meeting procedures.
Originality/value This study shows how good and bad meeting behaviors relate to employee perceptions of meeting effectiveness and individual job attitudes.
We suggest that meeting places appear to hold the potential for staff and service users to collaborate more democratically.
This present study offers insight into how competitive advantage of meeting planners is achieved.
The study also unveils how the direct and indirect effects of a hotel's meeting service performance are structured and analyzed in a dynamic framework.
