TL;DR: A time-series of off-gas measurements were conducted to demonstrate the value of real-time OTE data for developing energy-conserving operating strategies and confirm the inverse correlation between OTE and airflow rate as well as the economic benefits of diffuser cleaning.
Abstract: Aeration is the most energy intensive unit operation in municipal wastewater treatment, and fine-pore diffusers have been widely used to minimize power consumption Unfortunately, fine-pore diffusers suffer from fouling and scaling problems, which cause a rapid decline in aeration performance and significant increase in power consumption Diffusers must be cleaned periodically to reduce energy costs The cleaning frequency of diffusers is site-specific and its effectiveness can be evaluated with oxygen transfer efficiency (OTE) testing Off-gas testing is the best technique for measuring OTE in real-time Fine-pore diffusers have low α factors that are further reduced at high loading rate A time-series of off-gas measurements were conducted to demonstrate the value of real-time OTE data for developing energy-conserving operating strategies The observations confirm the inverse correlation between OTE and airflow rate as well as the economic benefits of diffuser cleaning In addition, mathematic models were applied to simulate the transient oxygen uptake rate (OUR) and show the impact of varying load on OTE and aeration cost, especially when faced with time-of-day power rates Regular diffuser cleaning can reduce average power costs by 18% and various equalization alternatives can reduce power costs by 6 to 16% 1

TL;DR: In this article, an air inlet diffuser is disclosed for attachment relative to an air-inlet opening of an electronics enclosure, and the diffuser extends into the electronics enclosure 100 and provides an increased surface area through which EMI attenuating apertures may be formed.
Abstract: An air inlet diffuser 10 is disclosed for attachment relative to an air inlet opening 106 of an electronics enclosure 100 . The diffuser 10 extends into the electronics enclosure 100 and provides an increased surface area through which EMI attenuating apertures may be formed. The diffuser 10 also reduces the amount of structure that is disposed within the air inlet opening 106 thereby reducing impedance to airflow through the opening 106 into the enclosure 100 . The increased surface are of the diffuser 10 allows for increasing the number of EMI attenuating apertures that may be utilized for a given inlet opening 106 . In one embodiment, the total open area of the EMI apertures is greater than the open area of the air inlet opening. In such an embodiment, the EMI apertures provide low impedance to airflow through the diffuser 10 and increased airflow in conjunction with EMI attenuation may be realized.

TL;DR: In this article, an air conditioning system with naturally stratified storage tank was designed, constructed and tested, and a new type of diffuser was designed and used in this study.
Abstract: In countries with hot climates, air-conditioning forms a large proportion of annual peak electrical demand, requiring expansion of power plants to meet the peak demand, which goes unused most of the time. Use of well-designed cool storage can offset the peak demand to a large extent. In this study, an air conditioning system with naturally stratified storage tank was designed, constructed and tested. A new type of diffuser was designed and used in this study. Factors that influence the performance of chilled water storage tanks were investigated. The results indicated that stratified storage tank consistently stratified well without any physical barrier. Investigation also showed that storage efficiency decreased with increasing flow rate due to increased mixing of warm and chilled water. Diffuser design and layout primarily affected the mixing near the inlet diffuser and the extent of this mixing had primary influence on the shape of the thermocline. The heat conduction through tank walls and through the thermocline caused widening of mixed volume. Thermal efficiency of stratified storage tanks was as high as 90 percent, which indicates that stratified tanks can effectively be used as a load management technique. Abstract: This paper gives a description of the methodology and results of J2-X Subscale Simulator (JSS) hot fire testing supporting the A3 Subscale Diffuser Test (SDT) project at the E3 test facility at Stennis Space Center, MS (SSC). The A3 subscale diffuser is a geometrically accurate scale model of the A3 altitude simulating rocket test facility. This paper focuses on the methods used to operate the facility and obtain the data to support the aerodynamic verification of the A3 rocket diffuser design and experimental data quantifying the heat flux throughout the facility. The JSS was operated at both 80% and 100% power levels and at gimbal angle from 0 to 7 degrees to verify the simulated altitude produced by the rocket-rocket diffuser combination. This was done with various secondary GN purge loads to quantify the pumping performance of the rocket diffuser. Also, special tests were conducted to obtain detailed heat flux measurements in the rocket diffuser at various gimbal angles and in the facility elbow where the flow turns from vertical to horizontal upstream of the 2nd stage steam ejector.
