Abstract: An integrated optical temperature sensor requiring no electrical connection and consisting of a parallel array of unequal arm‐length waveguide interferometers in LiNbO3 has been designed and the key components have been demonstrated. The optical transmission of each interferometer varies sinusoidally with temperature with a period inversely proportional to the path length difference between the two arms. This device has a projected range and resolution of ≳700 °C and 2×10−3 °C, respectively, and would be particularly useful in applications requiring immunity to electrical noise.

Abstract: The control of the manufacturing process in manufacturing plants requires a multiplicity of sensors and actuators which are usually interrogated and controlled by a stored-programme control, and this requires an electrical connection of each input or output of the control circuit to each sensor or actuator. Given a multiplicity of sensors and actuators, the outlay on machine wiring is quite considerable. This outlay on wiring can be reduced substantially according to the invention when the sensors (3a ... 3n) and actuators (4a ... 4n) are each equipped with a coder/decoder circuit (5a ... 5n or 6a ... 6n), and the individual coder/decoder circuits (5a ... 5n or 6a ... 6n) are connected to one another and to a central unit of the stored-programme control (1) via a line system (7) of BUS system type.

TL;DR: In this article, an electrical connection between the wire and the substrate is made by forming a channel-like depression in the surface of the substrate, and the hole is filled with a sinterable mass of a metal which is compatible with the metal of the wire.
Abstract: To manufacture a vibration-resistant, shock-resistant electrical connection on a ceramic substrate (11) having an electrically conductive layer (12) applied to a surface (13, 19) thereof, a groove or channel-like depression (16, 20) is formed in the surface, preferably also including a through-bore (18), into which a conductor (17) is placed. The space between the conductor and the groove, the through-bore, if provided, and an extending groove at the other surface (19) of the substrate is filled with a sinterable mass (21), preferably a cermet, containing a metal which is compatible with the metal of the conductor wire (17), both for example containing platinum. As a starting material, the plate with the grooves therein is extrusion-pressed, pre-sintered at a low temperature to give it form stability, then the electrode (12) is applied, then the electrical conductor (17) and the cermet is applied and then the entire sub-assembly is fired to sintering temperature, e.g. about 1500° C.; if desired, a further protective coating (22) of magnesium spinel may be plasma-sprayed on. Due to shrinkage of the ceramic components, the wire (17) will be securely held in position in the groove, and the cermet additionally forming an electrical connection between the wire and the substrate (11). For additional strain relief, the groove can be undulating (FIG. 3).

TL;DR: In this paper, a tester/sorter for performing electrical tests on axial lead devices such as diodes at a very high throughput rate carries the devices on the periphery of a rotating wheel.
Abstract: A tester/sorter for performing electrical tests on axial lead devices such as diodes at a very high throughput rate carries the devices on the periphery of a rotating wheel. A contactor assembly periodically makes electrical connection with one or more of the axial lead devices. A flying arm assembly mounts the contactor assembly so that it travels through a closed loop path of motion with respect to the wheel. In a first path portion, mechanical controls acting on the flying arm assembly lower the contactor assembly into electrical contact with the leads of the device. Once in electrical connection, there is no relative motion between the contactor assembly and the leads. After the test is completed, the mechanical controls lift the contactor assembly away from the leads and return it to its starting position. This travel is substantially free of mechanical impacts that could produce vibrations and thereby degrade the accuracy of the testing.
