TL;DR: The combination of the selective two-step photoionization and ion mass filtration allowed us to develop a very convenient technique for the precise measurement of hyperfine structure in the spectrum of odd isotopes.
Abstract: The experimental results on the laser isotope separation of the neodimium, samarium, europium, gadolinium, dysprosium, and erbium by the selective two-step photoionization are given. The rare earth elements have been chosen for the investigation because they constitute a good series of the very similar but different atoms that are heavy enough and allow experiments to be carried out that are representative enough. The experimental technique developed for the laser isotope separation experiments has been applied to measure the excitation energy transfer cross sections at the collisions in the gas of the same atoms ((153)Eu ? (151)Eu, sigma = 1.4 x 10(-13) cm(2)). The combination of the selective two-step photoionization and ion mass filtration allowed us to develop a very convenient technique for the precise measurement of hyperfine structure in the spectrum of odd isotopes. The examples of dysprosium and erbium are given. The technique is good for the rare and unstable isotopes as well. The ionization cross sections for the transition starting off the excited level have been estimated ( approximately 10(-17) cm(2)). For the example of gadolinium the possibility of creating neutral atomic vapor dense enough for laser isotope separation by the electron-beam evaporation technique has been demonstrated.

TL;DR: In this article, the erbium-doped soda glass has been studied in the saturation region and the g-value of the 4I15/2 ground state determined by use of the method of moments.
Abstract: The Faraday rotation and MCD spectrum about absorption bands in erbium-doped soda glass have been studied. The measurements were made in the saturation region and the g-value of the 4I15/2 ground state determined by use of the method of moments. The dominant nature of C-terms in rare-earth doped glasses are confirmed and the Faraday parameters derived for all optical transitions. Some comments are made on the existence of trigonal and tetragonal sites for the erbium ion in the glass matrix. By selective doping with erbium it is possible to produce a glass that has a zero Verdet constant.

TL;DR: In this article, the erbium deuteride/tritide thin film was used for neutron generator targets, where the interaction between the metal film and the substrates was investigated.
Abstract: Thin film technology is important in many disciplines. A common problem encountered is the resulting purity of the deposited film. A contribution to this contamination is the interactions between the metal film and the substrates. Our particular interest is in erbium deuteride/tritide thin films, which are used for neutron generator targets.

TL;DR: In this article, the soft X-ray appearance-potential spectra of M4,5 and N 4,5 levels of Er have been measured and interpreted in terms of the exchange interaction between the 4f electrons and d vacancies.
Abstract: The soft X-ray appearance-potential spectra of M4,5 and N4,5 levels of Er have been measured. The spectral features correlate well with the soft X-ray absorption spectra and density of states calculations. The results are interpreted in terms of the exchange interaction between the 4f electrons and d vacancies.

Abstract: The utilization of liquid-phase epitaxy for growing thin yttrium-aluminium garnet films is discussed. By transfer method from lead solvents films were obtained with a composition Y3Al5O12: Nd3+ on substrates with composition Y3Al5O12, and films Y3Al5O12: Er3+, Y3Al5O12: Er3+, Ga3+ (about 40 wt% of erbium) on substrates Y3Al5O12: Nd3+ Characteristics are given for simultaneous induced emission generation of the system film-substrate at 77 K Er3+ ion (λgen = 1.6602 μ) being a component of the film, and Nd3+ ion, being a component of the substrate (λgen = 1.061 μm). The results obtained are discussed. [Russian Text Ignored].
