TL;DR: In this article, a multiport radio frequency (RF) signal combiner is described for combining three or more RF signals for application to an antenna, which includes an input port for each RF signal, an output port coupled to the antenna, and a tuning port coupled with a tuning transmission line.
Abstract: A multiport radio frequency (RF) signal combiner is described for combining three or more RF signals for application to an antenna. The combiner includes an input port for each RF signal, an output port coupled to the antenna, and a tuning port coupled to a tuning transmission line. The input ports, output port and tuning port are connected to a terminating element. The tuning transmission line is terminated by a fixed or adjustable short-circuit impedance for substantially eliminating the capacitive discontinuity created by interconnecting the input ports. The RF signal combiner can be advantageously utilized in any radio system where it is necessary to multiplex the RF signals from three or more transmitters to a single antenna.

TL;DR: In this paper, the control signal of a laser diode transmitter is modulated with the signal to be additionally transmitted and this light component is coupled out at the receiving side, which is particularly useful in optical transmission systems for very high frequency digital signals with bit rates above 100 Mbit/s.
Abstract: A desire exists in the optical transmission of optical signals to co-transmit a service channel or telemetry signals in the form of an additional low frequency signal over the light conductor, since a remote feed line or a service channel is not always installed parallel to the light conductor length. The requirement exists for the transmission of the additional signal that, in addition to a low additional expense, no disruption of the actual useful signal can occur. To this end, the control signal of a laser diode transmitter is modulated with the signal to be additionally transmitted and this light component is coupled out at the receiving side. The structure is particularly useful in optical transmission systems for very high frequency digital signals with bit rates above 100 Mbit/s.

TL;DR: In this article, a surge impedance is selected such that the antenna driven elements (nearly resistive) and signal source, and parasitic elements that incorporate the invention, are mismatched at band end frequencies and center band frequency in apparoximately like amount.
Abstract: The deviation in operating frequency which antenna system elements can handle without serious transmission line mismatch is increased by constructing the antenna such that the inner portions (40, 42) of its legs (40,48 and 42,50) are formed of coaxial transmission line connected so that the outer conductor serves as part of the radiator, and so that the inner and outer conductor of the line cooperate to form compensation stubs whose impedance varies with frequency in a manner to cancel or oppose the reactance which the antenna legs exhibit with frequency change. The stubs are connected in series or in parallel with the antenna feed point and parasitic elements. Surge impedance is selected so that the antenna driven elements (nearly resistive) and signal source, and parasitic elements that incorporate the invention, are mismatched at band end frequencies and center band frequency in apparoximately like amount. The impedance is selected such that the antenna (somewhat reactive) and signal source are more nearly matched at frequencies midway between center band frequency and band edge frequencies.

TL;DR: In this article, a variable inductance coupling transformer having a primary winding is connected directly to the sense antenna and the output of the one-half wave delay line to produce at a secondary winding of the transformer a summation signal representing the summation of the 180 degree out-of-phase signal and the signal detected by a sense antenna.
Abstract: A directional locating device transmits pulsed RF signals at a stabilized frequency and is carried by an object the direction of which is to be determined from a distance remote from the transmitter. A one-half wave delay line in the receiver is responsive to the signal detected by a directional antenna for generating a 180 degree out-of-phase signal with respect to the signal detected by a sense antenna. A variable inductance coupling transformer having a primary winding is connected directly to the sense antenna and the output of the one-half wave delay line to produce at a secondary winding of the transformer a summation signal representing the summation of the 180 degree out-of-phase signal and the signal detected by the sense antenna. A second stabilized RF signal is generated at a different frequency than the RF signals radiated by the transmitting means and input into a mixer detector also responsive to the amplified summation signal to produce an AF signal indicative of the direction of the transmitter means from the receiver when the directional antenna is rotated to any given position relative to the transmitting means. A speaker receives the amplified AF signal to generate audible and non-audible signals, the latter being indicative of the direction of said transmitter means from said receiver.

TL;DR: In this article, a detailed computer simulation of AM broadcast reradiation from a power line is described and the computations compared with measurements, and the comparison of the computed results with full-scale radiation pattern measurements shows sufficient quantitative agreement to support the utility of computational predictions for power-line re-radiation.
Abstract: A detailed computer simulation of AM broadcast reradiation from a power line is described and the computations compared with measurements. The power line is in the vicinity of the London, England two-frequency directional antenna array of the U.K. Independent Broadcasting Authority. A simplified equivalent computational model is derived for the individual power line towers, and the ground effect due to the tower footings is estimated. The computational model includes the overhead ground wire (skywire) but excludes the power carrying wires. Computations are described for the power line induced currents and for the antenna radiation patterns as modified by the power line currents. The comparison of the computed results with full-scale radiation pattern measurements shows sufficient quantitative agreement to support the utility of computational predictions for power-line re-radiation. The frequency sensitivity of the re-radiation is studied theoretically and found to have a noticeable effect for deviations of ±10 kHz.

Abstract: The 100-kW transportable very low frequency transmitter system was used at Kafjord, Norway, for transmissions to the SCATHA and GEOS spacecraft. A 22-kV, 10.6-km long transmission line was used as an antenna. Modifications were made in the line to reduce telephone interference. Components were designed and installed to reduce the resonant frequency and increase the antenna current. The final practical operating current was 45 A at 1280 Hz. This resulted in power dissipation of 72 kW and an estimated radiated power of 0.17 to 0.79 W.

Abstract: The frequency response of a characteristically terminated transmission line, with multiple lumped discontinuities (output port loads) along the line, is determined. The analysis applies steady-state transmission-line solutions and simple circuit analysis methods in an iterative manner to determine the frequency response of each output port. This method is applied to the case of equally spaced capacitive reactance impedances along the transmission-line length. The phase and amplitude distortion resulting from line losses and output loading are determined.

TL;DR: In this article, the driver's cab of a lorry is equipped with a hydraulic tilting cylinder with a locking element and a non-return valve, which moves the locking element with its piston.
Abstract: The device for tilting and locking the driver's cab of lorries has a hydraulic tilting cylinder 1 in whose one feed line 6 which starts from the pump and is guided via a distributing regulator 9, there is provided, in addition to at least one hydraulically releasable non-return valve, a hydraulic cylinder which moves the locking element 23 with its piston. In the feed line 6 or the return line 15, a shut-off valve 14 is connected which is controlled by means of a control device 41 which is attached to the motor vehicle in such a way that, when the control device 41 is switched on, the shut-off valve 40 blocks the feed line 6 or the return line 15, as a result of which a circulation in the feed line/return line of the tilting cylinder can now no longer take place despite the pump being actuated. This has the advantage that, in order to prevent unauthorised actuation, the pump does not have to be attached to the motor vehicle at constructionally unsuitable points.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe a slotted cable antenna with probe-fed slots along the outer conductor which leak current onto the outside surface of the line, resulting in radiation.
Abstract: This invention relates to the structure of slotted cable antennas used in end-fire glide slope systems employed in the instrument landing of airplanes. The structure is an improvement over that described in my U.S. Pat. No. 3,699,582 titled Slotted Cable Glide Slope Antenna. An air-dielectric coaxial transmission line, carrying a travelling wave of radio frequency energy, has a number of probe-fed slots along the outer conductor which leak current onto the outside surface of the line, resulting in radiation. The magnitude of the radiation from each slot is controlled by the probe coupling to the inner conductor and by a slot shunt consisting of a coaxial shorted line section. The relative phase of the radiations from adjacent slots is controlled by the electrical spacing of the slots. The electrical spacing increases with rising temperature due to the expansion coefficient of the transmission line, but this effect is compensated by the inclusion within the transmission line of a strand of polyethylene or similar dielectric having a negative temperature coefficient.

Abstract: In an arrangement for the point transmission of data from a line device to a trackborne vehicle on lines which can be travelled in both directions, in which arrangement the line device can output data for both directions of travel, both the vehicle and the line device in each case exhibit a section for alerting and/or power transmission and one section for data transmission. The section for alerting and/or power transmission is provided twice, having in each case one antenna in front and behind the data transmission antenna. In the vehicle, all antennas are mounted underneath the vehicle. The antenna for power transmission in the line device receiving first establishes the direction of the vehicle. The correct data are then radiated as a function of this direction.

TL;DR: In this article, a fuse is inserted into the feed line branching off from the supply line to the base of the parallel-connected transistors, the rating of this fuse being such that, when a predetermined nominal current in the particular base feed line is exceeded, it interrupts this.
Abstract: In welding-current sources equipped with a plurality of parallel- connected transistors for regulating the welding current, the respective bases of which are connected in parallel with one another and are controlled by a common control device, and in each of which a resistor serving for balancing is inserted in the emitter circuit, there is the problem of keeping this welding-current source ready for operation even in the event of a collector/base breakdown, so that the welding operation does not have to be interrupted. This is guaranteed by inserting a fuse into the feed line branching off from the supply line to the base of the parallel-connected transistors, the rating of this fuse being such that, when a predetermined nominal current in the particular base feed line is exceeded, it interrupts this.
