TL;DR: A fastener driving apparatus includes a power source, a control circuit, a motor, a first cylinder, a piston, a linear motion converter, a second cylinder, an anvil, a valve arrangement and at least one sensor.
Abstract: A fastener driving apparatus includes a power source, a control circuit, a motor, a first cylinder, a first piston, a linear motion converter, a second cylinder, a second piston, an anvil, a valve arrangement and at least one sensor. During a compression stroke, the first piston is configured to compress gas in a first cylinder to a predetermined pressure. At the predetermined pressure, the valve arrangement assumes an open position for communicating the compressed gas to the second cylinder, thereby causing the second piston to move linearly and enabling the anvil to drive the fastener into the workpiece. During a return stroke, at a predetermined position of the first piston in the first cylinder, the valve arrangement assumes the open position for communicating a vacuum created in the first cylinder to the second cylinder and thereby causing the second piston and the anvil to retract to their initial positions.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the flow downstream of circular and inclined exits using volumetric 3-component velocimetry (V3V) and found that a tilted primary vortex ring interacts with two trailing rings; one associated with stopping of the piston, and the other associated with the asymmetry of the cylinder exit.
Abstract: Vortex rings were generated by driving pistons within circular cylinders of inner diameter D = 72.8 mm at a constant velocity U0 over a distance L = D. The Reynolds number, U0L/(2ν), was 2500. The flow downstream of circular and inclined exits was examined using volumetric 3-component velocimetry (V3V). The circular exit yields a standard primary vortex ring that propagates downstream at a constant velocity and a lingering trailing ring of opposite sign associated with the stopping of the piston. By contrast, the inclined nozzle yields a much more complicated structure. The data suggest that a tilted primary vortex ring interacts with two trailing rings; one associated with the stopping of the piston, and the other associated with the asymmetry of the cylinder exit. The two trailing ring structures, which initially have circulation of opposite sign, intertwine and are distorted and drawn through the center of the primary ring. This behavior was observed for two inclination angles. Increased inclination was associated with stronger interactions between the primary and trailing vortices as well as earlier breakdown.

TL;DR: In this paper, the proximal end of a biasing member is coupled to the housing and a distal end of the biasing members is configured to deliver a force to the fluid reservoir.
Abstract: A fluid delivery device comprises a housing having a fluid reservoir. A needle is in fluid communication with the fluid reservoir in an engaged position and out of fluid communication with the fluid reservoir in armed and storage positions. A proximal end of a biasing member is coupled to the housing and a distal end of the biasing member is configured to deliver a force to the fluid reservoir. A piston member extends through the biasing member and is coupled to the distal end of the biasing member. The piston member is fixed with respect to the housing in a locked position such that the biasing member does not deliver the force to the fluid reservoir and moveable with respect to the housing in a released position such that the biasing member delivers the force to the fluid reservoir. Transitioning the needle from the storage position to the armed position transitions the piston from the locked position to the released position.

TL;DR: The results show that the PSOBP arithmetic has quick convergence speed and good generalization ability, with which the diagnosis of fault in servo valve can be done effectively.
Abstract: The oscillation in electro-hydraulic regulating system is one of the main reasons leading to the oscillation of electric power system. In this article the influence of internal leakage and plugging of servo valve on the characteristic of the regulating system was analyzed. With the simulation in AMESIM it was found that the leakage of the power stage spool, the plugging of nozzle and orifice could both cause the oscillation of regulating system when the system oil pressure fluctuated. The fluctuation of piston displacement and oil pressure in oil servo motor in different fault state were analyzed. For preventing regulating system from oscillation it was needed to diagnose fault in the servo valve. Taking single leakage for example the change of parameters such as regulating time, steady displacement, and system frequency response, etc. were analyzed. The characteristic table of different fault was given based on simulation. In diagnosis particle swarm optimization (PSO) arithmetic was combined with BP neural network. The weight and threshold values were optimized by PSO arithmetic and five characteristics such as the piston displacement and system frequency were selected as the input of network. The results show that the PSOBP arithmetic has quick convergence speed and good generalization ability, with which the diagnosis of fault in servo valve can be done effectively.

TL;DR: In this article, a mathematical model for the description of effective flow rate of axial piston pumps and motors is presented, which is similar to classical lumped parameter approaches that are commonly used to simulate hydraulic units.
Abstract: This work illustrates a numerical methodology for the description of effective flow rate of axial piston pumps and motors. The presented mathematical model is similar to classical lumped parameter approaches that are commonly used to simulate hydraulic units; however, this work uniquely utilises a mathematical formulation for compressible flows based on an original description of fluid density. Assuming the behaviour of typical mineral oil, the model can evaluate fluid density for all possible values of pressure while considering the occurrence of gas cavitation (due to the release of air normally dissolved into liquid) below saturation pressure, and of vapour cavitation (due to liquid change of phase) below vapour pressure. The developed simulation model allows a description of several characteristics of the machine (i.e. instantaneous cylinder pressure and density, delivery and inlet flow rates, etc.) in its whole field of operation taking into account conditions of insufficient flow due to cavit...

TL;DR: In this article, a cylindrical mandrel and an annular stationary sealing member connected to the mandrel are used for downhole, oil and gas well tools, and a balance piston is slidably supported within the top hydraulic chamber of the actuator.
Abstract: Novel hydraulic actuators and hydraulic setting assemblies are provided for use in downhole, oil and gas well tools. The novel hydraulic actuators include a cylindrical mandrel and an annular stationary' sealing member connected to the mandrel. A hydraulic cylinder is slidably supported on the mandrel and stationary sealing member and is releasably fixed in position on the mandrel. The stationary sealing member divides the interior of the cylinder into a bottom hydraulic chamber and a top hydraulic chamber. An inlet port provides fluid communication into the bottom hydraulic chamber, and an outlet port provides fluid communication into the top hydraulic chamber. A balance piston is slidably supported within the top hydraulic chamber of the actuator. The piston includes an axially extending passageway. Fluid communication through the piston and between its upper and lower sides is controlled by a normally shut valve in the passageway. In the absence of relative movement between the mandrel and cylinder, the balance piston is able to slide in response to a difference in hydrostatic pressure between the outlet port, is which is on one side of the piston, and the portion of the top hydraulic chamber that is on the bottom side of the piston.

Abstract: A compressor includes orbiting and non-orbiting scrolls forming first and second fluid pockets therebetween. First and second ports are disposed in the non-orbiting scroll and radially spaced apart from each other. The first port communicates with the first pocket at a first radial position and the second port communicates with the second pocket at a second radial position. A blocking device is movable between a first position preventing communication between the ports and a fluid source and a second position allowing communication between the ports and the fluid source. The first and second pockets have first and second pressures, respectively.
