TL;DR: In this article, the use of an office printer connected to a microcomputer in order to print legitimate postal marks is described, which is a method for eliminating specific stamping machines and limiting the handling operations to the manipulation of a small size cartridge.
Abstract: The invention relates to methods which involve the utilization of an office printer connected to a microcomputer in order to print legitimate postal marks. It comprises the use of a cartridge of special fonts (104) wherein are stored the stamping marks according to the standards provided for the printer (102). A known security component (204) is provided, on the one hand, to protect the access to the memory (202) contained in the cartridge and, on the other hand, to calculate for each print of a stamping mark a security mark which contains crypted information which are readable by the postal administration for authentication of the stamping mark. Thereby, the invention provides for the elimination of specific stamping machines and limits the handling operations to the manipulation of a small size cartridge.

TL;DR: In this article, a flexible stamp stencil is used to achieve uniform guide tracks over the entire surface of an optical storage disk, whose curvature can be changed by applying hydrostatic pressure.
Abstract: An optical storage disk consists of a glass substrate (1) into which guide tracks (3) for servo-controlling the focussed light beams are directly stamped by a hot stamp process. After stamping, the glass substrate is thermally quenched in the stamping device to increase its breaking resistance through thermal curing. In order to achieve uniform guide tracks over the entire surface of an optical storage disk, flexible stamp stencils (35) in a flexible holder (34) are used whose curvature can be changed by applying hydro-static pressure. Suitable stamp stencils consist of monocristalline silicon disks with surface hardening, or of metal disks, structured in photolithographic processes. The stamp lands are made with bevelled edges to facilitate the separating of stamp and glass substrate after cooling.

TL;DR: In this article, a method of producing aluminum alloy sheet product includes casting a slab, homogenizing the cast slab, and hot rolling the homogenized slab to provide an intermediate gauge product.
Abstract: A method of producing aluminum alloy sheet product includes casting a slab, homogenizing the cast slab, and hot rolling the homogenized slab to provide an intermediate gauge product. The temperature and other operating parameters of the hot rolling process are controlled so that the temperature of the intermediate gauge product exiting the hot rolling step is between about 500° F. and 650° F. Preferably, the temperature does not exceed 575° F. The intermediate gauge product is then subjected to a cold reduction of 45% to 70%, annealed, and cold rolled to final gauge. The combination of controlling the hot rolling to provide a desired exit temperature of the intermediate gauge product and annealing prior to cold rolling to final gauge minimizes or eliminates the appearance of ridging or roping line defects in the aluminum sheet product when subjected to further straining in a forming or stamping operation. An improved aluminum alloy sheet product is produced having a superior surface finish for use in automotive components such as hoods or deck lids.

TL;DR: In this article, a mold with hemispherical cavity and 80 kN hydraulic press, allowing variable stamping speeds, is employed for experimentally studying the 3D stamp forming process of continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic laminates.
Abstract: In this investigation a mould with hemispherical cavity and 80 kN hydraulic press, allowing variable stamping speeds, are employed for experimentally studying of the 3-D stamp forming process of continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic laminates. In particular, glass fiber (GF) reinforced polyetherimide (PEI) woven fabric made of sheath surrounded, polymer powder impregnated fiber bundles manufactured by Enichem, Italy, is used. Pre-consolidated laminates are heated by contact heating in an external heater up to about 120°C above the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the polymer matrix; they are then stamp formed in a cold matched metal tool. Typical cycle times (including preheating time of the preconsolidated laminates) are in the range of 3 min. Useful processing conditions, such as stamping temperature, stamping velocity and hold-down pressure required for stamp forming of this composite are determined. In addition the effect of die geometries (deformation radian) and original laminate dimensions are studied. The results describe the correlations between processing parameters and fiber buckling. Finally the thickness distribution in stamped parts are investigated in relation to different directions of fiber orientation.

Abstract: A simple simulative test was developed to evaluate the stamping formability of steel sheets in plane strain stretching deformation. The stamping formability was evaluated by the limiting punch height (LPH) value in the plane strain punch stretching (PSS) test compared to the minimum of the limiting dome height (LDHo) value in the hemispherical punch stretching test, the standard LDH test. The PSS test shows a stable plane strain deformation and a good reproducibility with less scattering data. Moreover, the LPH value in the PSS test ranks well the stamping formability of various sheet materials and shows good correlations with press performance.

Abstract: A method for the defined adjustment of the formability of a metal semi-finished product, particularly one in the form of sheet or strip materials, by means of laser irradiation for a subsequent forming process is known. In this method, the surface of the workpiece is subjected to laser irradiation, the workpiece and the laser radiation being shifted relative to one another in time in their coordinates. In order to develop such a method further, the workpiece is subjected continuously to laser radiation in such a way that a trace representing a recrystallisation zone is produced on the workpiece in the region of a desired bending, a desired stamping and bending or a deep-drawing deformation to be carried out.

Abstract: At least two material strips are fed in parallel to a mechanism which positively drives each strip at rates predetermined by a feed unit. The strips thus synchronised are fed in parallel to a common stamping tool within a stamping press. The resultant stampings are joined into a precision component. The driver mechanism incorporates at least two roll gaps (WA, WB) formed by roll pairs (8, 10; 9, 11) for the two material strips. At least two rolls (10, 11) are positively coupled in the strip feed direction. The roll diameters are chosen (or are adjustable) so that the desired feed rates are attained.Pref. the feed of the first strip is decoupled from the displacements imposed on the second strip by the stamping tool. The width of the roll gaps (WA, WB) and hence the pressure on the strips exerted by means of two adjustment mechanisms is independently variable.
