Journal ArticleDOI
Chronic arsenic exposure and adverse pregnancy outcomes in bangladesh.
Abul Hasnat Milton,Wayne Smith,Bayzidur Rahman,Ziaul Hasan,Umme Kulsum,Keith Dear,M Rakibuddin,Azahar Ali +7 more
TL;DR: Excess risks for spontaneous abortion and stillbirth were observed among the participants chronically exposed to higher concentrations of arsenic in drinking water, suggesting that chronic arsenic exposure may increase the risk of fetal and infant death.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effectiveness and reliability of arsenic field testing kits: are the million dollar screening projects effective or not?
Mohammad Mahmudur Rahman,D. P. Mukherjee,Mrinal Kumar Sengupta,Uttam Kumar Chowdhury,Dilip Lodh,C. R. Chanda,Shibtosh Roy,Selim,Quazi Quamruzzaman,Abul Hasnat Milton,S. M. Shahidullah,Tofizur Rahman,Dipankar Chakraborti +12 more
TL;DR: Field kits are currently used to classify tube wells as delivering arsenic below 50 microg/L (the recommended limit in developing countries) as safe, painted green or above 50 microG/L, unsafe and painted red, although mislabeling was considerably reduced in the higher range.
Journal ArticleDOI
Arsenic hazard in shallow Cambodian groundwaters
David A. Polya,Andrew G. Gault,N. Diebe,P. Feldman,J. W. Rosenboom,E. Gilligan,D. Fredericks,Abul Hasnat Milton,Mickey L. Sampson,H. A L Rowland,H. A L Rowland,P. R. Lythgoe,J. C. Jones,C. Middleton,D. A. Cooke +14 more
TL;DR: In this article, small-scale hazard maps for arsenic in shallow Cambodian groundwaters based on >1000 groundwater samples analysed in the Manchester Analytical Geochemistry Unit and elsewhere are presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Associations between drinking water and urinary arsenic levels and skin lesions in Bangladesh.
Habibul Ahsan,Mary Perrin,Atiqur Rahman,Faruque Parvez,Martin Stute,Yan Zheng,Abul Hasnat Milton,Paul W. Brandt-Rauf,Alexander van Geen,Joseph H. Graziano +9 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that arsenic exposure is associated with skin lesions in the Bangladesh population and that urinary arsenic may be a stronger predictor of skin lesions than arsenic in drinking water in this population.
Journal ArticleDOI
Uncertain etiologies of proteinuric-chronic kidney disease in rural Sri Lanka
Nimmi T.C. Athuraliya,Nimmi T.C. Athuraliya,Tilak Abeysekera,Priyanie H. Amerasinghe,Ranjit Kumarasiri,Palitha Bandara,Upul Karunaratne,Abul Hasnat Milton,Alison L Jones,Alison L Jones +9 more
TL;DR: Proteinuric-CKD of uncertain etiology is prevalent in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka, in contrast, known risk factors were associated with CKD in the Central and Southern Provinces.
