TL;DR: The most important conclusion drawn from this symposium was that if the growing prevalence of overweight and obesity continues at this pace, the result will be a population of children and adolescents with metabolic syndrome, which would lead to high mortality rates in young adults, changing the current increasing trend of worldwide longevity.

Brazilian guidelines on prevention of cardiovascular disease in patients with diabetes: a position statement from the Brazilian Diabetes Society (SBD), the Brazilian Cardiology Society (SBC) and the Brazilian Endocrinology and Metabolism Society (SBEM).

TL;DR: Diabetes is a heterogeneous disease, and those without risk factors or evidence of sub-clinical atherosclerosis are at a lower risk, so cardiovascular prevention strategies should be individualized according to cardiovascular risk while intensification of treatment should focus on those at higher risk.
