Journal ArticleDOI
The use of Gene-Xpert MTB RIF in the diagnosis of extrapulmonary tuberculosis in childhood and adolescence.
Rafaela Baroni Aurilio,Vivian Vidal Marsili,Thiago da Silva Santos Malaquias,Afrânio Lineu Kritski,Clemax Couto Sant'Anna +4 more
TL;DR: Gene-Xpert MTB RIF (Xpert) is based on nucleic acid amplification by real-time polymerase chain reaction, which allows for the identification of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and rifampin resistance and can facilitate the rapid diagnosis of lymph node tuberculosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Detection of tuberculosis drug resistance: a comparison by Mycobacterium tuberculosis MLPA assay versus Genotype®MTBDRplus
Paula Fernanda Gonçalves dos Santos,Elis Regina Dalla Costa,Daniela M. P Ramalho,Maria Lucia Rosa Rossetti,Regina Bones Barcellos,Luciana de Souza Nunes,Leonardo Esteves,Rodrigo Rodenbusch,Richard M. Anthony,Indra Bergval,Sarah Sengstake,Miguel Viveiros,Afrânio Lineu Kritski,Martha Maria Oliveira +13 more
TL;DR: The results obtained by the MLPA and Genotype®MTBDRplus assays indicate that both molecular tests can be used for the rapid detection of drug-resistant TB with high accuracy.
Book ChapterDOI
Preliminary Results on Pulmonary Tuberculosis Detection in Chest X-Ray Using Convolutional Neural Networks
Márcio Eloi Colombo Filho,Rafael Mello Galliez,Filipe Andrade Bernardi,Lariza Laura de Oliveira,Afrânio Lineu Kritski,Marcel Koenigkam Santos,Domingos Alves +6 more
TL;DR: Experimentation of classic convolutional neural network architectures on public CRX databases is presented to create a tool applied to the diagnostic aid of TB in chest X-ray images, which is within the range of metrics found in the literature, although there is much room for metrics improvement and bias avoiding.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tuberculous uveitis at a referral center in southeastern Brazil
Wesley Ribeiro Campos,Juliana Fulgêncio Henriques,Afrânio Lineu Kritski,André Luiz Land Curi,Rosita Tomishi Pimentel,Silvana Spíndola de Miranda +5 more
TL;DR: A history of contact with pulmonary tuberculosis proved to be useful in diagnosing TBU in this study and there was no difference between the patients with TBU and those with non-TBU in terms of the status of ocular inflammation or the tuberculin skin testing results.
