Angela Marcia Cabral Mendonça,Afrânio Lineu Kritski,Marcelo Gerardin Poirot Land,Clemax Couto Sant'Anna +3 more
TL;DR: This study reveals the relevance of the relation of abandonment of IPT to the socioeconomic conditions at the place of residence and poor adherence to the active TB treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Novel stepwise approach to assess representativeness of a large multicenter observational cohort of tuberculosis patients: The example of RePORT Brazil.
María B. Arriaga,María B. Arriaga,Gustavo Amorim,Artur T. L. Queiroz,Moreno M. S. Rodrigues,Mariana Araújo-Pereira,Mariana Araújo-Pereira,Betania M. F. Nogueira,Alexandra B. Souza,Michael S. TL;DR: Comparisons revealed that the cohorts were strikingly similar with regard to sex, age, use of antiretroviral therapy and positive initial smear sputum microscopy, however, diabetes, HIV infection, and smoking were more frequently documented in RePORT-Brazil.

TL;DR: A modified presentation of the impact assessment framework is proposed that improves accessibility while continuing to provide a checklist of the evidence needed to support policy decisions on the implementation of new tools for the diagnosis of tuberculosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Colorimetric microwell plate reverse-hybridization assay for Mycobacterium tuberculosis detection.
Candice Tosi Michelon,Franciele Rosso,Karen Barros Schmid,Rosa Dea Sperhacke,Martha Maria Oliveira,Afrânio Lineu Kritski,Leonides Rezende Jr,Elis Regina Dalla Costa,Andrezza Woloski Ribeiro,Mirela Verza,Patrícia Izquierdo Cafrune,Márcia Susana Nunes Silva,Daniele Kuhleis,Arnaldo Zaha,Maria Lucia Rosa Rossetti +14 more
TL;DR: A pre-commercial colorimetric method for detecting Mycobacterium tuberculosis DNA in which an oligonucleotide probe is fixed onto wells of microwell plates and hybridized with biotinylated polymerase chain reaction amplification products derived from clinical samples showed similar specificity to that described for commercially available kits.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spoligotyping of clinical Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates from the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil
Silvana Spíndola de Miranda,Wânia da Silva Carvalho,Philip Noel Suffys,Afrânio Lineu Kritski,Martha Maria Oliveira,Noemi Zarate,Thierry Zozio,Nalin Rastogi,Brigitte Gicquel +8 more
TL;DR: The bulk of tuberculosis (TB) in this location is recent evolutionary strains that belong to the principal genetic groups 2/3, and further studies on epidemiology of TB are required to understand Mtb biodiversity and TB transmission in this region.
