Journal ArticleDOI

Degradation of sulfamethoxazole in water by solar photo-Fenton. Chemical and toxicological evaluation.

TL;DR: In this work, the photocatalytic degradation of the antibiotic sulfamethoxazole (SMX) by solar photo-Fenton at pilot plant scale was evaluated in distilled water (DW) and in seawater (SW).
Journal ArticleDOI

Degradation of the antibiotic amoxicillin by photo-Fenton process - Chemical and toxicological assessment

TL;DR: Different pathways of AMX degradation were suggested including the opening of the four-membered β-lactamic ring and further oxidations of the methyl group to aldehyde and/or hydroxylation of the benzoic ring, generating other intermediates after bound cleavage between different atoms and further oxidation to carboxylates such acetate, oxalate and propionate.
Journal ArticleDOI

Photodegradation of sulfamethoxazole in various aqueous media: Persistence, toxicity and photoproducts assessment

TL;DR: Daphnia magna was the most sensitive showing an increase from 60% to 100% immobilization after 30 h of irradiation when depletion of SMX was achieved, thus indicating the higher toxicity of the phototransformation products generated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Photodegradation of the pharmaceuticals amoxicillin, bezafibrate and paracetamol by the photo-fenton process-application to sewage treatment plant effluent

TL;DR: In this article, the photo-Fenton process was used for the degradation of amoxicillin (AMX), bezafibrate (BZF) and paracetamol (PCT) in aqueous solutions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fundamentos e aplicações ambientais dos processos fenton e foto-fenton

TL;DR: In this article, the fundaments of the Fenton and photo-Fenton processes are discussed and the main aspects related to the degradation of organic contaminants in water such as the complexation of iron, the use of solar light as the source of irradiation and most important reactor types used.
