Journal ArticleDOI
Simple and fast spectrophotometric determination of H(2)O(2) in photo-Fenton reactions using metavanadate.
TL;DR: The reaction product showed to be very stable for samples of peroxide concentrations up to 3mmolL(-1) at room temperature during 180h, and when compared to iodometric titration, the vanadate method showed a good agreament.
Journal ArticleDOI
Degradation of sulfamethoxazole in water by solar photo-Fenton. Chemical and toxicological evaluation.
Alam G. Trovó,Raquel Fernandes Pupo Nogueira,Ana Agüera,Amadeo R. Fernández-Alba,Carla Sirtori,Carla Sirtori,Sixto Malato +6 more
TL;DR: In this work, the photocatalytic degradation of the antibiotic sulfamethoxazole (SMX) by solar photo-Fenton at pilot plant scale was evaluated in distilled water (DW) and in seawater (SW).
Journal ArticleDOI
Degradation of the antibiotic amoxicillin by photo-Fenton process - Chemical and toxicological assessment
Alam G. Trovó,Raquel Fernandes Pupo Nogueira,Ana Agüera,Amadeo R. Fernández-Alba,Sixto Malato +4 more
TL;DR: Different pathways of AMX degradation were suggested including the opening of the four-membered β-lactamic ring and further oxidations of the methyl group to aldehyde and/or hydroxylation of the benzoic ring, generating other intermediates after bound cleavage between different atoms and further oxidation to carboxylates such acetate, oxalate and propionate.
Journal ArticleDOI
Photodegradation of sulfamethoxazole in various aqueous media: Persistence, toxicity and photoproducts assessment
Alam G. Trovó,Raquel Fernandes Pupo Nogueira,Ana Agüera,Carla Sirtori,Carla Sirtori,Amadeo R. Fernández-Alba +5 more
TL;DR: Daphnia magna was the most sensitive showing an increase from 60% to 100% immobilization after 30 h of irradiation when depletion of SMX was achieved, thus indicating the higher toxicity of the phototransformation products generated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Degradation of tetracycline by photo-Fenton process - Solar irradiation and matrix effects
TL;DR: In this article, the degradation of the antibiotic tetracycline (TC) by the photo-Fenton process was evaluated under black-light and solar irradiation, and the influences of iron source (Fe(NO3)3 or ferrioxalate), hydrogen peroxide and matrix (pure water, surface water and a sewage treatment plant effluent) were evaluated.
