TL;DR: In this article, a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials undertaken in Bangladesh, India, Malawi, and Nepal in which the effects of women's groups practising participatory learning and action were assessed to identify population-level predictors of effect on maternal mortality, neonatal mortality, and stillbirths.
Journal ArticleDOI
A comparison of clinical officers with medical doctors on outcomes of caesarean section in the developing world: meta-analysis of controlled studies
Amie Wilson,David Lissauer,Shakila Thangaratinam,Khalid S. Khan,Christine MacArthur,Arri Coomarasamy +5 more
TL;DR: Clinical officers and doctors did not differ significantly in key outcomes for caesarean section, but the conclusions are tentative owing to the non-randomised nature of the studies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effectiveness of strategies incorporating training and support of traditional birth attendants on perinatal and maternal mortality: meta-analysis.
Amie Wilson,Ioannis D. Gallos,Nieves Plana,David Lissauer,Khalid S. Khan,Javier Zamora,Christine MacArthur,Arri Coomarasamy +7 more
TL;DR: Perinatal and neonatal deaths are significantly reduced with strategies incorporating training and support of traditional birth attendants, as measured by adverse perinatal outcomes and maternal mortality.
Journal ArticleDOI
Women’s Groups Practicing Participatory Learning and Action to Improve Maternal and Newborn Health in Low-Resource Settings: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Audrey Prost,Tim Colbourn,N. Seward,Kishwar Azad,Arri Coomarasamy,A. Copas,Tanja A. J. Houweling,Edward Fottrell,A. Kuddus,Sonia Lewycka,Christine MacArthur,Dharma S Manandhar,Joanna Morrison,Charles Mwansambo,Nirmala Nair,Bejoy Nambiar,David Osrin,Christina Pagel,Tambosi Phiri,A.M. Pulkki-Brannstrom,Mikey Rosato,Jolene Skordis-Worrall,Naomi Saville,N.S. More,Bhim P Shrestha,Prasanta Tripathy,Amie Wilson,Anthony Costello +27 more
TL;DR: The proportion of pregnant women participating in women’s groups was linearly associated with reductions in both maternal and neonatal mortality, but no evidence of associations was found between the effects of the intervention and background mortality or institutional delivery rates.
Journal ArticleDOI
A systematic review and thematic synthesis of qualitative studies on maternal emergency transport in low- and middle-income countries
Amie Wilson,SC Hillman,Mikey Rosato,John Skelton,Anthony Costello,Julia Hussein,Christine MacArthur,Arri Coomarasamy +7 more
