Journal ArticleDOI
Data mining methods in the prediction of Dementia: A real-data comparison of the accuracy, sensitivity and specificity of linear discriminant analysis, logistic regression, neural networks, support vector machines, classification trees and random forests
João Maroco,Dina Silva,Ana João Rodrigues,Manuela Guerreiro,Isabel Santana,Alexandre de Mendonça +5 more
TL;DR: When taking into account sensitivity, specificity and overall classification accuracy Random Forests and Linear Discriminant analysis rank first among all the classifiers tested in prediction of dementia using several neuropsychological tests.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chronic Stress and Glucocorticoids: From Neuronal Plasticity to Neurodegeneration
Sheela Vyas,Ana João Rodrigues,Joana Silva,François Tronche,Osborne F. X. Almeida,Nuno Sousa,Ioannis Sotiropoulos +6 more
TL;DR: A brief review considers some of the cellular mechanisms through which stress and GC may contribute to the pathogenesis of AD and PD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Criticality between Cortical States.
Antonio J. Fontenele,Nivaldo A. P. de Vasconcelos,Thaís Feliciano,Leandro A. A. Aguiar,Leandro A. A. Aguiar,Carina Soares-Cunha,Bárbara Coimbra,Leonardo Dalla Porta,Sidarta Ribeiro,Ana João Rodrigues,Nuno Sousa,Pedro V. Carelli,Mauro Copelli +12 more
TL;DR: Independent signatures of criticality are tested and it is shown that a phase transition occurs in an intermediate value of spiking variability, in both anesthetized and freely moving animals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Activation of D2 dopamine receptor-expressing neurons in the nucleus accumbens increases motivation.
Carina Soares-Cunha,Bárbara Coimbra,Ana David-Pereira,Sónia Borges,Luísa Pinto,Patrício Costa,Nuno Sousa,Ana João Rodrigues +7 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that the classic view of D1–D2 functional antagonism does not hold true for all dimensions of reward-related behaviours, and that D2 neurons may play a more prominent pro-motivation role than originally anticipated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Behavioral characterization of the 6-hydroxidopamine model of Parkinson’s disease and pharmacological rescuing of non-motor deficits
Miguel M. Carvalho,Filipa Lopes Campos,Bárbara Coimbra,José M. Pêgo,Carla Rodrigues,Rui Lima,Ana João Rodrigues,Nuno Sousa,António J. Salgado +8 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that the unilateral medial forebrain bundle 6-hydroxidopamine-lesioned model of PD is a relevant tool to study the pathophysiology of motor and non-motor symptoms of PD, and shows that pharmacological interventions modulating dopaminergic transmission are also relevant to revert the non-MFB behavioral deficits found in the disease.
