The classification of inherited epidermolysis bullosa (EB): Report of the Third International Consensus Meeting on Diagnosis and Classification of EB.
Jo-David Fine,Robin A.J. Eady,Eugene A. Bauer,Johann W. Bauer,Leena Bruckner-Tuderman,A.H.M. Heagerty,Helmut Hintner,Alain Hovnanian,Marcel F. Jonkman,Irene M. Leigh,John A. McGrath,Jemima E. Mellerio,Jemima E. Mellerio,Dedee F. Murrell,Hiroshi Shimizu,Jouni Uitto,Anders Vahlquist,David T. Woodley,Giovanna Zambruno +18 more
TL;DR: A revised classification system that takes into account the new advances, as well as encompassing other inherited diseases that should also be included within the EB spectrum, based on the presence of blistering and mechanical fragility is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Revised nomenclature and classification of inherited ichthyoses: Results of the First Ichthyosis Consensus Conference in Sorèze 2009
Vinzenz Oji,Gianluca Tadini,Masashi Akiyama,Claudine Blanchet Bardon,Christine Bodemer,Emmanuelle Bourrat,Philippe Coudiere,John J. DiGiovanna,Peter M. Elias,Judith Fischer,Philip Fleckman,Michal Gina,John I. Harper,Takashi Hashimoto,Ingrid Hausser,Hans Christian Hennies,Daniel Hohl,Alain Hovnanian,Alain Hovnanian,Akemi Ishida-Yamamoto,W. K. Williams,Heiko Traupe +38 more
TL;DR: An international consensus is achieved for the classification of inherited ichthyosis that should be useful for all clinicians and can serve as reference point for future research.
Journal ArticleDOI
The pH Gradient over the Stratum Corneum Differs in X-Linked Recessive and Autosomal Dominant Ichthyosis: A Clue to the Molecular Origin of the “Acid Skin Mantle”?
Hans Öhman,Anders Vahlquist +1 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that the "acid mantle" of normal skin, which penetrates deep into the stratum corneum, is the combined result of cornification-associated organic acids and back-diffusion of acid material from the surface.
Journal ArticleDOI
ATP2A2 mutations in Darier's disease: variant cutaneous phenotypes are associated with missense mutations, but neuropsychiatric features are independent of mutation class.
Victor L. Ruiz-Perez,S. Carter,Eugene Healy,Carole Todd,Jonathan L. Rees,Peter M. Steijlen,Andrew J. Carmichael,Helen M. Lewis,Daniel Hohl,Peter Itin,Anders Vahlquist,T. Gobello,C. Mazzanti,R. Reggazini,Gyula Nagy,Colin S. Munro,Tom Strachan +16 more
TL;DR: While both common isoforms of SERCA2 are expressed in the cytoplasm of cultured keratinocytes and fibroblasts, in adult skin sections only the longer isoform,SERCA2b, was expressed abundantly in epidermal structures, and may be an intrinsic, but inconsistent, effect of defective ATP2A2 expression.
Journal ArticleDOI
Metabolism of the Vitamin A Transporting Protein Complex
TL;DR: It is proposed that most RBP is catabolized from the pool of the uneomplexed species and as much as one third of the plasma vitamin A may be deposited in the kidney tubuli on degradation of RBP.
