COVID-19 epidemic in the Brazilian state of Amazonas was driven by long-term persistence of endemic SARS-CoV-2 lineages and the recent emergence of the new Variant of Concern P.1
Felipe Gomes Naveca,Valdinete Alves do Nascimento,Victor Costa de Souza,André de Lima Guerra Corado,Fernanda Nascimento,George Silva,Ágatha Costa,Débora Duarte,Karina Pessoa,Matilde Mejía,Maria Júlia Brandão,Michele Silva de Jesus,Luciana Márcia Gonçalves,Cristiano Fernandes da Costa,Vanderson de Souza Sampaio,Daniel Barros,Marineide Silva,Tirza Mattos,Gemilson Soares Pontes,Ligia Fernandes Abdalla,João L.M. Santos,Ighor Arantes,Filipe Zimmer Dezordi,Marilda M. Siqueira,Gabriel Luz Wallau,Paola Cristina Resende,Edson Delatorre,Tiago Gräff,Gonzalo Bello +28 more
TL;DR: Findings support that successive lineage replacements in Amazonas were driven by a complex combination of variable levels of social distancing measures and the emergence of a more transmissible VOC P.1.1 virus.
Journal ArticleDOI
Confirmed Invasive Pulmonary Aspergillosis and COVID-19: the value of postmortem findings to support antemortem management
Monique Freire Santana,Guilherme Pivoto,Márcia A. A. Alexandre,Djane Clarys Baia-da-Silva,Mayla Gabriela Silva Borba,Fernando Fonseca Almeida Val,Jose Diego Brito-Sousa,Gisely Cardoso de Melo,Wuelton Marcelo Monteiro,João Vicente Braga de Souza,Silviane Bezerra Pinheiro,Luiz Carlos de Lima Ferreira,Felipe Gomes Naveca,Valdinete Alves do Nascimento,André de Lima Guerra Corado,Ludhmila Abrahão Hajjar,João Ricardo da Silva Neto,George Alan Villarouco Siva,Alessandro C. Pasqualotto,Marcus V. G. Lacerda +19 more
TL;DR: Postmortem evidence of invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) in a patient with severe COVID-19 is presented and reports are needed to assess the occurrence and frequency of IPA in SARS-CoV-2 infections, and how they interact clinically.

Three SARS-CoV-2 reinfection cases by the new Variant of Concern (VOC) P.1/501Y.V3
Felipe Gomes Naveca,Cristiano Fernandes da Costa,Valdinete Alves do Nascimento,Victor Costa de Souza,André de Lima Guerra Corado,Fernanda Nascimento,Ágatha Costa,Débora Duarte,George Silva,Matilde Mejía,Karina Pessoa,Luciana Márcia Gonçalves,Maria Júlia Brandão,Michele Silva de Jesus,Marineide Silva,Tirza Mattos,Ligia Fernandes Abdalla,João Hugo Abdalla Santos,Rubens Carmo Costa-Filho,Tsuyoshi Sekizuka,Kentaro Itokawa,Masanori Hashino,Makoto Kuroda,Marilda M. Siqueira,Gabriel Luz Wallau,Edson Delatorre,Tiago Gräf,Gonzalo Bello,Paola Cristina Resende +28 more
TL;DR: The present study provides the first evidence of the new VOC P.1.1 causing multiple reinfections during the second epidemic peak in the Amazonas state and suggests that reinfected individuals may have been infectious.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genomic and phylogenetic characterisation of an imported case of SARS-CoV-2 in Amazonas State, Brazil.
Valdinete Alves do Nascimento,André de Lima Guerra Corado,Fernanda Nascimento,Ágatha Costa,Débora Duarte,Sérgio Luiz Bessa Luz,Luciana Mara Fé Gonçalves,Michele Silva de Jesus,Cristiano Fernandes da Costa,Edson Delatorre,Felipe Gomes Naveca +10 more
TL;DR: Nucleotide sequence analysis showed a total of nine mutations in comparison with the original human case in Wuhan, China, and support this case as belonging to the recently proposed lineage A.2.
Journal ArticleDOI
High Prevalence and Onward Transmission of Non-Pandemic HIV-1 Subtype B Clades in Northern and Northeastern Brazilian Regions.
Flavia Divino,André de Lima Guerra Corado,Felipe Gomes Naveca,Mariane Martins de Araújo Stefani,Gonzalo Bello +4 more
TL;DR: The results support that the HIV-1 subtype B epidemics in some Brazilian states from the Northern and Northeastern regions display a unique molecular pattern characterized by the high prevalence of BCAR lineages, which probably reflects a strong epidemiological link with theAIDS epidemic in the Caribbean region.
